Question How long ago did AMG....

Stop doing the center of the steering wheel in leather? I see the wood/leather wheel still has the center covered in leather which IMO looks 10x's better than the stock plastic piece.

My 2002 E55 center piece is in leather and it has "AMG" logo on it too. I was a bit disappointed when the new E55 has a plain steering wheel. And it is a bit thin in diameter also. Well, you can't have it all I suppose.

Ahhh finally someone that remembers/knows! I though this was the case, I miss those extra touches, especially the leather trim and the AMG logo on the wheel. The steering wheel on my CLK500 was thicker than my 06 E55's which it looks like the 07's will inherit . I wonder if the center section from the 02's will fit the newer cars?

I loved the way that looked on the C43, (208)CLK55 & (210)E55. I don't understand why AMG stopped putting that on the steering wheel.

It would be nice if they did it like BMW M does on all it's steering wheels.

AMG is still offering it but only through Manufaktur! They offer thicker
steering wheels, the center in leather. What ever you want!

I agree that the steering wheel is underwhelming.

When you take a look at your steering wheel now and
the one you used to see in the w210, than you would know the
center is very hard to fit.
My guess is they won't fit!
