only had a somewhat small cone filter that had a 3.5" opening from my other setup lying around, so i used that for now. for the heatshield i used flash aluminum and insulated it on both sides with this... http://www.bondedlogic.com/insulatorfeatures.htm
not only does the trac control light blink like it wants to give me a seizure, but the engine note sounds unreal upstairs. throttle response is as crispy as fried chicken, and power seems to have picked up all over the place (especially at upper rpm's).
thanks again for posting up them picks amgdriven. the thought of this intake had crossed my mind some time ago, but your post solidified the fact that i should try it. i'd love to see what you did next.......so post them pics!!
I am considering using this thingt with AMG's setup.I've had it sitting in my house brandnew for 2yrs.What do you guys think as oppsed to having a more open air setup?Comments please!

...although... from that ad, does this statement strike anyone else as plain 'wrong'? :: "The aluminum housing acts as a height shield" ... errr, umm, uhhh ... Aluminum is a great electrical and therefore heat conductor. Apply heat to one side of a plate or tube of aluminum, and the other side [in this case inside of the tube] is quickly heated to the same temperature.

Steve if I wrap the cannister with some ind of thermal wrap or even paint it with some kinda thermal paint or swain coating http://www.swaintech.com should'nt this help?Or just leave it open wth a heatshield suronding the area? od a ton of ??? Sorry Steve.

"Open" cone air filters work well when engine heat is blocked. If the cone is sucking in hot engine air.....we would be better off with the factory set-up.
P.S. You guys need to make sure you use that front air duct in the bumper to direct air to your filter.....on top of using the factory air intake source.

I also think with the canister/vortex generator several -feet- , not inches from the throttle body, the effect will get lost. ...but that's completely just an unsupported belief.

My bad, it was 4.7L Magnum P.I motor Does that thing have a Hemi? No. But, it's a magnum and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night (really, I stayed at one)
Change of plans guys. I have re-vamped the intake. Try this instead.
Use these folks http://stores.ebay.com/Siliconeintakes for the 3.5" to 4" intake boot and 3.5" to 3.5" 90 degree elbow.
Use these folks http://stores.ebay.com/Velocity-Air for the 12" long 3.5" aluminum intake tube. Trust me.
The 4" tube was kind of tight when I closed the hood. Not enough to damage the hood....just tight like "nat booty". So.....use the the 3.5" aluminum tube over the intake manifold and use the 3.5" to 4" boot to connect to the larger tube to the filter. Leave the tube to the air filter 4" for the whole "velocity-stack-compression-thing". Bam....looks better, I have better control of positioning of the tube and better clearance under the hood. I will post pics tomorrow.....Tuesday.....the day after today, in which is Monday.

i was also thinking of using something similar from K&N...

after some thought, i came to a conclusion that ultimately you will be limiting the filter on how much air it can ingest by the opening of the shield holes-sort of like the oem amg intake. so i figured using an open element with a properly sealed heatshield would work better.
but if you do try it, let us know what you think of them.
i'd actually like to get dyno numbers myself asap-just gotta find some time
i like the way this is going, the more heads that are involved, the more we can all refine this and the end result could be stunning.
see what you started amgdriven? not only did i abort my old setup, but this thread made me spend even more $$$

I like the original setup, as done by AMGdriven, only snag is that insulation - I'd have to redo that. I'm not doing this until I see some dyno numbers proving its efficacy.

Do you have any dynos of any kind? I personally would have gone about it a different way but still not bad. No point in going more than 3.5" anyways b/c MAS is still 3.0".
