What's "better" than an E55?
I've had my 2002 E55 for about 4 months now and I am absolultely blown away by this car. The power, the comfort, and the value (I paid $26K) are a perfect package.
In my search for this car I looked at a lot of competing cars in the class, but couldn't find one that didn't compromise power, cabin space, or cost significantly more.
Is there another car that you'd recommend that has the same characteristics that I might consider buying when I replace my aging E55?
I am a big guy and found that the 5 series BMWs were a little tighter than the E55, but the 7 series cars seem too big and underpowered relative to the E55. I am interested in Audi's but haven't driven one.
Thanks!
Ron

These are nice! I saw one black/black at the Chrysler dealer that was pretty loaded for about $40,000 but I think a lot of car for that money.

I've seen a ton of the Chryslers. I would be willing to test one out, but to be frank it doesn't quite have the exclusivity of a mercedes, if you know what I mean. I admit that I do enjoy a bit of the luxury cache associated with a german automobile.

Have you tried a Jaguar XJR? It has Brembo brakes, 4.2 liter supercharged V8, comparable numbers to the E55, and decent leg room (though a little less than an E). The look of the car is not too bad and it drives well...

I'm gonna agree with a few others...A w211 E55. Other than that nothing I have also seen a 300C SRT8...wow nice sounding car. But it isn't a Mercedes. The S55/65 are much more money. I looked at them before I bought my E55...nice but too much money, for now.
Bottom line... stick with the E55s.

We share a common interest.. 4 door sleeper sedan with a huge V8 and lots of torque. I was set on getting a BMW M5, but I prefer the E55 because of the auto (I'm getting old!), more comfy ride, bigger backseats, and cheaper price. MBs lose value faster than BMWs, and AMGs don't hold value well at all compared to BMW ///M. It's really hard to buy anything else, because used MBs are so cheap.
I'm not so hot on W211 E55/E63, they may be faster but they don't feel as solid to me. My next car might be 2005/2006 W220 S55 AMG. If S-class is too big, you should check out Infiniti M45 sport pkg. That's a nice car.
BTW i hope you guys are joking about the chrysler 300, that car's a joke..

i think you should buy my car and you'll urinate all over yourself if you gas it down a main road! You'll think its the fastest car in the world. lol They call it a W211 because W stands for Will do 211mph.

I have read your question, and I think the only car that will fit to your standards other than an E55 will be an audi rs6 or an s8.
But the rs6 is more than double the expance and an s8 is some what larger than an E class, but you can get one for the same money and it has quattro drive so it will be less difficult to controle in fast corners.
But overall there is not a better car on the 2nd hand market than an w210 or w211 E55, and I must state that the crysler c300 is indeed a joke!!

my experience with MBs has not been very good. I'm disappointed with the lack of quality in these cars. They drive great and look good, but too many problems and I'm still shocked at how easily my cars develop rust. I'm not sure what car I'll get next but I'm pretty sure it won't be a MB, at least not a pre-2007 model.
