AMG E36 W210 handling question
Hi all
I am a new member of the forums having recently purchased an E36 from a fellow UK enthusiast and to date (a week or so) I have been in awe of the car in all respects.
However, as my confidence has increased and I have started to explore the cars rather impressive performance levels, I have encountered a strange sensation that I would really appreciate some feedback on from other more experienced AMG E Class 210 owners.
I have found that the car is superb, very neutral handling all the way up until you reach three figure speeds and it becomes quite nervous and juddery (mainly at the rear) –*rather than being sure footed on the road. Now I have owned various sports cars in the past, although not running such big wheels etc, but wondered is this a trait of the vehicle?
Not that its a thing I do often but I would honestly be fairly nervous exploring any speeds exceeding 115mph, even though the car itself absolutely flys up to these speeds and wants to keep going. It has had two new tyres on the rear at the time of purchase, that I now wonder if they may be wrongly balanced, but I'd welcome any experiences or advice from anyone that might be able to shine a light on this subject for me i.e. how do your E36, 50, 55 drive in excess of 100mph?
Regards

Check the wheel balance and wheel alignment for both fronts and rears..... all AMGs and Benzes are generally designed for autobarn use so it should be rock solid stable up to the speed limiter.

How long should a wheel alignment take please? I am about to have 4 new tyres fitted & have been quoted 3.5 hours by a MB dealer
I've had laser alignments done in the past elsewhere, for all 4 wheels on a M5 & I'm sure it took them half an hour.

It may be time to replace your tie-rod assembly and steering damper as well as lower balljoints. If you are going to replace them do it all at once, you will save alot of time and money and the parts aren't that much either. This alone will make the steering feel like new. Once you do this, when go ahead and do alignment and balance. Sometimes worn suspension components can cause the car to lose that planted feel at higher speeds.
