lack of power e55 w210?? HELP
just bought a 1999 E55 AMG W210 .... and im in the uk.
now just had the air con re-gassed and climate re-set etc etc..... at same time my mech told me the throttle hadn't been calabrated???????? so he did that for me as well... this could be due to bat going flat......
BUT ANYWAY........
the car low down and midrange seems to pick up quite well but top end really seems to struggle............ i have had it plugged in via multi plug under bonnet and at time of this it had 2 ACTUAL faults which said FUEL TRIM both of them that is...............
can anybody point me in right direction .... no other faults listed.... idles fine, drives fine,
etc etc etc....thanks
Welcome aboard!
Terrific choice of car if I may say
I'm wondering what mileage it's done & whether the car's MAFs have ever been cleaned or better still replaced?
Are you able to join us for a visit to Mercedes World in Brooklands this week, probably Friday? See the thread for more info. It would be great to meet a few other AMG owners.
Regards
Chris
also 1 thing i would like to ask ..... when you turn ignition on so all lights come on dash should engine check light come on then go off, or not light at all and only come on when there is a problem ...?
as i cant see mine on ignition ... and was wondering if someone has played the pull the bulb out trick due to this possible air flow meter problem???
cheers
Let me know.

Regarding the lights, just been outside to mine & when you turn the key so that all the lights come on, I do not see an engine warning light (is there such symbol?). All I could see were 3 orange symbols on l/h/s for ABS, footbrake & BAS/ESP, in the middle of the display was an exclamation mark in a triangle (ETS/ASR/ESP check), the LIM (cruise control) symbol & finally the SRS symbol.
Chris
and thanks for looking for me outside, that makes me feel a little better a s they are the bulbs that come on mine as well...... i just thought if there was a "fuel trim error" the engine light should have come on... thats all..
but thanks for help.. no doubt il need more soon

Just bought mine & it had it's main B service, just 200 miles beforehand & had its MAFs replaced too. Mileage 66000.
The car goes like stink. The rear tyres need replacing asap, however, when I have floored it, on one of those rare dry days, the semi slick tyres hooked up really well, the traction control was not intrusive & it scorched off the line, to the delight of my 7 year old boy safely strapped down in the boot
Acceleration almost identical to my old e39 M5. With new rubber due to arrive & be fitted all round any day now, I think the grip, particularly in the wet weather we've been experiencing for the last month, will be significantly improved.

now different car i know, but my omega track car, on ignition engine light comes on and as soon as you start it goes out..... which is what made me think...
but on other hand my old e39 BMW had a engine check light but didn't come on with ignition and only when problems arose which was once....... ???
my reason for asking mainly was this fuel trim issue of 2 codes flashing up on diagnosis showing actual faults.... now wondered if in fact engine light should of been on with this fault???
was only by chance i asked a friend to check if everything was ok with car, as idled fine, ran bellow 3k lovely............. only top end suffered......
ON A DIFFERENT NOTE
last night decided to take air box out as didn't realise how easy it is..... to see the air filters were so black and full of rubbish inc almost a whole bird!!!!!
new ones arrive tomorrow and il replace them, also noticed a small hose had been disconnected on right hand side of engine bay, only small...... so plugged that back together and she seems to be acting much better touch wood....... so basically my main aim is to get rid of any faults flashing up..... which was only the trim errors on both banks........ I HOPE!!!
but i would like to thank everyone on here for your imput been a great help...........
