u guys should check out Leno's vid of the new CLK63 black series. in the background, he has his SLR, Porsche CGT and of course our E55 in silver!! hehe.

Jay, used that E55 in one of his Tonight Show skits last year - A midget jumped out the trunk to steal someone else gas at the gas station.
Jay is my man - he has his W210 E55 AMG parked next to his SLR McLaren. Hmmmm! Does he own a W211 E55?

2013 E63 AMG
Jay's first Mercedes was his Silver SLR McLaren and picked it up at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance a few years ago and he said he never owned a Mercedes until his SLR and did not know the power hidden under the MB hood. Since then look at his collection growing of MB’s he knows a great drivers car. Jay also said he purchased this SLR due to it being handmade so I guess that’s why we see an E55 W210 sedan in the garage.

His first Mercedes? Hard to believe that he purchases that E55 after he purchased his SLR. W210 E55 production ended b4 any SLR was built. No way that was his first and/or that he purchased his E55 used.

He is becoming one of the largest collectors in the world of automotive preserving. He owns like six aircraft hangers filled with cars from the first automobile until now. He is leaving the Tonight Show, and I think he’s getting ready to launch a new car TV show. GM will sponsor his new TV show, and I am still looking for it on a network for broadcasting it unless it stays on the web.

His E55 is either a 2000, 2001 or 2002. So what would be the significance in either of those years? Why not the first year of the W210 E55 (1999)? Wouldn't a true car collector buy the first year (1999) or the last (2002)?

At Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Jay was interviewed and he told a story of owning a lot of cars but never a Mercedes due to them being slow and classy rides until the SLR came out then he wanted one after a test drive in it. Maybe he liked the W210 AMG for another reason. I will ask him why he purchased his E55.
What I do know about our W210 E55 is that this is the first AMG/Mercedes-Benz to roll off the line from concept design to being hand built all in house under full Mercedes ownership of AMG which completed in 1999. Before our W210 AMG Mercedes only owned company stock in AMG. The C43 AMG was the first street car Mercedes worked together on as none racing factory tuner team. The body was redesigned updated for 3 years and only changed from 2000-2002 with interior colors. Manufactured E55; (W210) 2000-2002 total U.S. units made 2853, (W211) 2003-2006 total U.S. units made 7937. So you can see the made less W210 E55 AMG’s and more non hand made W211 except for the engines.
So enjoy your collector low number run hand built car that most people think is just another Benz.
