another newbie with an '00 E55

This forum is great. It's good to see people that love their cars as much as I do. I purchased this car last september in NY and drove it cross country to LA where I am living now. This is a picture of the car at Big Bend National Park. The car was great and made the drive over here well worth the trip.

I got a great deal on the car and this is my first mercedes. I can't see driving anything else, especially AMG. I think I got such a good deal because the car came with these wheels... I quickly went on ebay to get a set of the factory 18" monoblocks and then paid an arm and a leg for some new continental tires. Let me know what you guys think!!! my friend who checked out the car for me (MB mechanic, the best I've seen) has one of the nicest E55s I have seen. I'll try to get him to post some pics. he's back in NJ and his car is probably covered in snow I think I am going to take it out for a spin now!! damn I love this car.

what I meant to say was. "these wheels and tires are great... they would look really good an older benz"

any takers?

I also have a set of 20" lowenharts offset that the guy threw in with the purchase of the car. I'm still up in the air if I want to keep them or sell them. They are in mint condition.

Thanks about the benz, i'll post some more pics soon, it is fully loaded with COMAND, integrated blue-tooth phone and a K40 Radar detector. I am probably going to keep the 20" Lowenharts, but I am selling the 18" Proline wheels w/ tires for anyone that knows anyone that is interested.

the only thing I know about the Lowenharts is that they are expensive. I found this site that has some nice things to say. Anyone know anything about Lowenhart wheels out there?

Nice pic, I've made the trip cross country twice so far but in Trans Am's(once from Reno to Sacramento to NY and then from LA to NY taking RT66 to Indy). Must have been nice in an E55

I took my time, We left NYC on Oct. 22nd, 2007 and arrived in Marina del Rey (my current home) on Nov. 24th, 2007. We signed the paperwork for the apartment in Cali while we were on the road. It was fun, drove down the east coast to Jacksonville, FL, across to New Orleans, through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Vegas and finally arrived in LA. We stayed with friends and family, camping and hotels. It was a good trip...

RobertG,
I'm not sure where Murieta is, but I am really close to LAX. let me know where you're at and we can go cruisin' i don't really know anyone out here yet.

TTA850, My good friend back in NJ has an '01 E55 and a 89 GTA racecar. he put a supercharger in the GTA because his e55 was almost as fast.

Car sure looks better with the factory AMG monoblock wheels now dude! Those other wheels it had on there were scary ugly!

I don't know what people think when they butcher these rare, limited production cars? I did opt to have the centers of my AMG OEM wheels painted gloss black to match my car's color. I left the lips polished aluminum however and I recieve compliments all the time that my wheels look cool.

Enjoy your new car and this fun forum!

Yup, just missed it but the member is an S-class owner from here so I'm sure it will surface as soon as he gets it (shipped day before yesterday, finally). Anyway, sorry I can't comment on the sale price as like I mentioned, he's a member in here but as soon as you see it, you're more than welcome to ask him.

There is another thread in here recently posted with all of the most recent W210 E55 sales for year models 99-02. Check it out and good luck...

hafabd0,
yeah, I think I got a great deal! the car had 65K miles and the guy was asking $20K, I talked him down to 17K, mainly because it didn't come with the factory wheels and I new that was going to set me back some $$. It is fully loaded with every available option except parktronic (but if you know how to park you don't really need that
It came with a custom car cover, extra set of 20" Lowenhart wheels, extended warranty that is still good until 1/2009 and a custom K40 dash radar detector.

Good luck with your search. I found this one on autotrader.com.

Mfte55black,
Yes they were! I was almost embarrased to drive my new car around with those things, especially how they looked in the rear. I'm not sure why he put them on there. He actually purchased the whole set right before he sold the car. maybe someone stole his monoblocks... or he didn't want to spend the $$$ to put tires on the 20" lowenharts.

I do think they would look good on an older e class and they are for sale if anyone wants them. i took plenty of pictures and the treads are still great. let me know. I left them back in NJ but can ship them anywhere in the US.

Wont tell you how much I paid for mine with 61.5k miles, warranted till 2/2009, every record from new and clean as a whistle. and previous two owners are board members..and zero mods.

Welcome aboard. Nice color you got there.

FYI..it might be too late for you, but I would ditch those Conti tires ASAP (Burnouts amd donuts work real good if you can't return them). Pretty much every member here will agree they suck big time. I have Toyo T1Rs and love them! You will notice the difference when you acclerate and corner.

it's too late for returning, I drove over 10,000 miles on them already. they are conti sport contact's. have you had them on your car?
I should have gotten the Toyo's they are much cheaper. Maybe I'll check them out when I'm ready to replace these. I'm still considering putting on the 20" Lowenhart wheels, I think for tires I would need 235/30R20 front and 285/25R20 rear to give me the correct speedometer reading. any suggestions for those sizes??

I can't really comment on differences as my car came with Toyo T1Rs when I got them. I have loved them from day one. No noise and good grip. By best friend has a C43 and he had contis and hated them. He switched to Pirellis and likes them way better than the contis.

Maybe some other members have actually compared the 2 brands? Also try a search as I know this topic has been discussed a lot in the past.

As I experienced, my favorite all around tires that I had on mine were the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Wow, they handle great, ride smooth as silk and are all season! If you have the money to spend on these don't hesitate. Just my $0.02...
