H&Rs how long to settle ???

Hello to all , finally moved to Miami from New York and now I can drive my cars the way they were meant to be driven. On the subject of springs / pads/ shocks which I know there are plenty of posts, how long do the H&Rs take to settle in, just finished the installation, Bilsteins 07 fr, 08 rears ( NOT reversed as some posts suggested) decided to go with #3 pads rear and #2 fronts. The rear looks great, the fronts are a bit too high, I was trying to avoid going with #1s all around I want to be safe...the car is level, but there is no rake, and I do feel that the front arch is too high...will they settle , how much and how long will it take? Thank you all. Cheers

I have H&R with pad#1, the front only drop 3/4" and it hasn't settle any for the last 7 months.
The rear is about .5 inch lower than the front. If I ever going to swap out springs in the future i will go with Eibach Pro-Kit.

What I meant was if I wanted the car to drop more than 1" than what I have on there now I would go with Eibach Pro-kit. take a look at Jimmy car. he have Eibach and there little or no fender gap at all.

Peter....I think your car looks great dude!

Jimmy's is cool too....but a bit too low for my taste! If he drove around the guys I know his tires would be rubbing the top of his wheel wells! ha ha

I have about the same drop as you do....by just switching out my #3 pads for #1 pads....there is "low" and there is "too low"....your car looks great. BTW...love those Brembo brakes and updated MB wheels! I guess those wheels cost a lot of $$$ however..?

I see... I thought you had issues with quality of H&R springs.

Nevertheless, I think your car looks great overall.

thanks.

btw, these wheel are so cheap and light! I was going to temporary use them because they clear the front brake, didn't have time to get custom wheel & offset but when I got them on I kinda like it so I'm going to keep them for now. But i plan to get the HRE 540 or Iforged trumph at the end of the year. I already used up all my holiday gift wish this year

My problem with H&R is they are not consistance in drop height, some car will drop alot and some raised the height my didn't lower at all until i replaced the pads. I had Eibach Prokit on every BMW M3 i owned and they are very constance with the height they specify.

I agree. I have H&R's and the back was lower than the front. Waited for a year to settle and nothing happened, even if its my daily driver. Ended up changing the front pads from #2 to #1. Rear sits perfect with the number #2 pads with about a finger gap. The fronts with #1 pads have slightly bigger gap than the rear.

The eibachs look good on Jimmys car, not sure how the ride is though. H&R's ride about 10% stiffer which I like.

Peter thanks for chiming in , and thanks to all the posters, Peter I do think your car looks great , congrats. I guess I am not alone in expecting a consistent drop for the W210, but it is not, now I have the rear nice with #3 pads ( I wanted to be safe for pots and road holes and it feels great, the front is too much of a gap, going to #1 pads instead of the #2 will only yield 4mm which is not enough . From my days with the 560SEC on the mbcoupe group we did so many cars and they all dropped the same and we were always able to get that rake just right, not the case with W210 I guess, I guess I will redo the fronts with #1 and live with that , I wonder if there is an difference within the H&Rs themselves from batch to batch..it could be .

I put the H&Rs in my car on Friday, and I noticed a drop right away. I have #3s in the front and #2s in the rear, but I am going to swap the front pads to 1s to get a uniform look front and rear. I'm not looking to tuck rims, but I want a look like jimmydagreek's old car, just a little bit, and I mean a little bit higher. But the ride is fantastic!

You are absolutely right Peter, I have decided that my front didnt drop at all with the H&R/ & #2, I didnt know what pad I had on the car before but I think it was #3. I keep looking and the front didnt drop at all , thats VERY disappointing from H&R, I have to call them and let them know. Now I am stuck with either having to change everything to Eibach or, cut the front springs! I am at a loss. Mind you the rear dropped & looks great, and thats with #3 pad!

Here I am! I had H&R sports on my previous E420 and the ride was too harsh for me on #1 pads and Bilstein Sports. On my previous E55 as Peter posted, I ran Eibach Pro and Bilstein Sport and the ride was perfect. The ride was much softer on Eibach for daily driving yet very responsive when taking corners. I had #1 pads all around and also running 19's staggered and no rub! It didn't matter how many of my "large" friends I had in the car and we packed it in, NO RUB WHATSOEVER!

Jimmy , I have to say your car looks great . The more I drive my car the less happy I am with the H&Rs, too harsh. I have used them before on different Benzes and always loved them , but not now. what bothers me more than anything is that I paid t have them installed and now I have to redo everything again which I am not happy about !I went with the higher pad in the rear to be on the safe side ( didnt want any bottoming ) and also I wanted that raked angle. The rear is great but I sweat the front didn drop any ! I never installed them myself , so I either do that for the first time with a new set of Eibachs, or cut the front H&Rs which I am not too crazy about! I am calling H&R today to state my disappointment!
So now what Jimmy ? what is the new project ??? Tell us ...
Regards,
Max

Thanks for the comments and good luck man. As I posted in the other thread, just use the spring compressor and do it yourself; you'll save lots of money and can play and fine tune your suspension to your liking.

For now, I got a stupid killer deal on my friend's 03 W211 E500 that I was borrowing while looking for a W211 E55. This car will be my daily driver and I'll do some light mods to it because I can't drive a stock car, lol. I will eventually (hopefully by summer) pick up a 04-05 E55 white on black with Pano if/when I can find one and go crazy on that! I'll post as always and I hang out quite a bit over at myMBonline.com so you'll see my posts over there too.

Keep the modding coming and enjoy the crap out of your W210 E55, I did!
