Thanks Wayne, been dying to get some mods done to the car and i think these will be a good choice.
Bought an induction kit for the car last month but its lost power...quite a lot!! I recon 0-60 is around 6.5 to 7 now so they're coming off this week and getting replaced with some k&n's.
I've been on the CKS web site and they sell de-cat pipes there...any good?
Going to get the car over 400bhp if its the last thing i do!

Well, dont bother with CKS. The best thing to do is find a custom exhaust shop and get it done there. I went to Exhausts UK in Sheffield. Ok they charged me £150 because of the location and it being tight. They had to take the headers off to get a good weld, but they used high grade stainless and it is a perfect job.
Over 400BHP is what I would love to acheive. I went with K&N's but didnt see much difference. Still have them in but when I get a new MAF may take them out. Sprintbooster is working a treat so far. You can really tell the difference in response time.
The X-Pipe and decat made the biggest difference and I highly recommend doing this. If you could get over to Sheffield I can have a word and they will do the job lot for £300 I reckon.
Also see what our cars do head to head
Anyway, I reckon the next mod for me is custom headers and a complete tune up, but she is running sweet so in no rush.

Thanks for the help wayne,

Just got the prices back from CKS: 395 plus vat for the sports cats...each

Have to have a think on that one!

I've had the car a couple of months now bought it off matt palmer who was on the forum quite regular. Really happy with it, but getting used to it now and just want a little more power again! But i dont want to spend thousands on it as i'd be better off keepiing the cash for a W211

There's a x-pipe on the car already so does that mean the cats have already been sorted? Silly question probably but im new to mercs.......and loving it

I remember the car mate and I dont think he has done anything with the cats. I dont think you need to bother with sports cats. Just remove the front ones and replace with pipe, thats it. Do you have a faulty cat??

Anyway PM me if you want my number and you can call me for a chat!

Thanks again wayne!!

No mate the cats are fine just wanted to get a few extra hp's. Been on the phone to longlife exhausts and they might be able to get some sports cats for it.

Put the k&n's on today and the car is back to fast now!! Couldn't believe the drop in power with the cone filter kit! I've always swapped them on every car i had and they always made an improvement

I'll let you know how i get on with the exhaust company.....might even go for a quad pipe system if its not too expensie

Ive just bought a 2000 E55 de-catted and I am not at all happy with the Noise of the car, The only way I can describe it, is, it sounds like a 70's Yankee V8???
It is very Responsive and feels like it has more than 354HP, but the Exhaust note is Cheap/Poorly,

I am having new Cats fitted ASAP,

Regards,

Terry.

BTW, I bought this car Cheap because it failed its MOT on Emissions (No Cats)

Hi Terry

Were all the cats removed or just 2 out of the 4?
I can honestly say it is a very nice sound with the way I have it set up. Maybe you have a leak somewhere where someone has chopped the cats. Do you still have the resonator fitted?

Hello Wayne, Apparently, only the 2 Offside Cats have been removed, the 2 Nearside ones are still in place, the weld to seal the pipe up once the cats were removed is not the greatest but it does not blow, on idle or soft driving, the car sounds perfect, its only when you use the throttle aggressively that it sounds like an old Z28 or a Trans Am, Not putting them cars down as I have very fond memories of driving them Yanks in the 80's, its just that I want my Mercedes to sound like a Mercedes, not like an American Muscle car, so I have found someone who will replace the Cats for a lot less than Mercedes quoted, and I have been told that this will be the best Option because there are some Complete Pattern Exhaust Systems out there which can restrict the flow of the Exhaust Gases and the Performance! I should have the car back next week so I will let you know,

Regards,

Terry
