Engine dies at 3500rpm in 1st gear

What now????
My engine seems to virtually cut out under full acceleration in 1st gear at around 3500 rpm.
It seems fine if I use the car in 'W' which exculdes 1st gear. Acceleration through the rest of the gears seems fine too.
I've never been 100% sure about the gearbox after having a few strange problems over the last six months.
Has anybody got any ideas? Would the MAF sensor cut power if it's faulty??
Gettin fed up with these iritating problems, thought a Mercedes would be better than this. Maybe it's M5 time?...

I hear your pain, but man , if you're looking for a diagnosis more info from the patient is needed.Before I would ask for help I would at least provide the following : mileage,approxiamate mileage on the spark plugs - if known,last time fuel filter was changed,IF the mas was changed,last time air filter was changed - if known, last time tranny was serviced-if known.All these items relate to the performance of your vehicle.Help us out,and we'll help you out.

As for the details on plugs, fuel filter, MAF and tranny service I'll get back to you (the details are at my office).

OK, £700 later, two engine mounts, a gearbox mount and a new MAF sensor and I'm a happy man!!!
No more cut outs, a new found zest for speed and the car is finally running like the 354bhp suggests it should!!!
It took a while (7 months) but it's now that AMG I dreamed about!!
