After idly looking for about 4 months I yesterday took the plunge on a dark metallic blue W210 facelift E55. Wow what a car. After having a Jag XK8 and a Jag XK Coupe I am amazed by the performance of these machines. Fuel economy is dismal and after a long trip with a light foot I only managed 21 mpg and around town it seems to settle at about 15mpg.

Seems to have most of the options, rear blind, Navigation, front lumbar controls, rear heated seats. Blue tinted windows, tiptronic ( unnecessary IMO as the gearbox is faultless).

Feel I got a bit of a bargain as its a 2000 with 65k miles and haggled down to £5500. Look forward to posting pics soon.

I too just purchased my first w210, black on black 2001! I actually got rid of a 2005 s-type R for a 2001 E55? The E just looks so much more sinister when you lower it and put new shoes on em! I'm debating on before and after pics as I already have HUGE plans for my E! Oh yeah, the tranny on these things is sick!

Good on ya pal, i bought one 2 weeks ago awesome machines they are, i had a supra twinturbo before this and the E55 deffo feels quicker especially lower down the torque range

hope these images come out . Hope to keep it super standard. Needs one wheelarch blowing in and two rims need polishing. Looking to find a newer sat nav disc as its a 2001 disc or I might use my sony unit. Needs two keys as the one supplied is eating new batteries every two days!! Reg is a private one from the seller and it makes it look two years older but I think its the first year of the facelift (2000)

How was the S-type R compared to the E55? I was SO close too buying one instead of the E55 because I just couldn't find the black on black with black wood E anywhere, but there was a triple black S-type R for sale near where I worked. Almost took the plunge on the jag, but then my current E55 popped up the day before on Autotrader.

Nice. I like the body color. Does anyone know if that color came with a gray interior? I'm not a fan of the 2 tone but if that body color came with a gray interior it probably would be the best looking 210 ive ever seen. I've seen the dark blue M5s (and 5 series clones) with the gray interior and they look fantastic.

funny how we all have different tastes. I hate grey interiors, to my eyes its so bland and reminds me of people who wear grey shoes. Now a tan or beige interior I would love especially in elegance trim. I like black but its so oppressive if fully black. I have a 1994 W124 coupe which has a black and grey interior which is a very nice balance. Good job we all klike different things otherwise it would be a dull world!!

i completely agree. i would never get a car with tan or beige interior. it would remind me too much of the many plain beige hondas ive had over the years. my all black benz was a wonderful and radical departure from those cars.

Now a black and gray interior sounds awesome. do you have any pics?

Will post pics of the 124 coupe next week. I went to look at a few Mercs in a local garage and a couple of the circa 2000 S class models stuck out. When I sat in them I felt lost and just did not like them at all. In the corner was a 1998 240 e class with 54k genuine one owner and when I sat in that it felt great. That interior was beige leather with elegance wood. It was't just the colour that made the experience better but the seats were more supportive and everything just seemed right. It made my mind up an E class was the way to go. I had set my mental price bracket and was looking at 320's when the E55 popped up on the radar. I know I made the right choice!! This is my Fourth Merc, i have always been a Jag Man before. IMO you buy a Merc with your head but you buy a Jag with your heart, they really can be love affairs. I have never had that with a Merc but like them as they just work all the time. One thing I am a bit gutted about on this E class is the stalks (indicator multi function and the cruise) are now on the left hand side of the steering wheel where they were always on the right hand side of older Mercs. This meant that everything could be controlled with the right hand as well as steering and the left could be happily supported by the armrest, maybe with a cup of tea!

I liked it alot, it just somehow doesn't look at menacing as my E! Surprisingly enough at about 350hp my E actually feels like it has a bit more torque and about the same acceleration as the Type R. Not for long though! Ha Ha Haaaaaa!

Here as promised are pics of my coupe. If anyone is interested its now for sale 1994 220 ce with 130k, AMG duck tail, AMG replica wheels. Always serviced and runs like a dream.
