who has done resonator delete x pipe combined with secondary cats
New owner here. I think e55 should sound a little more aggressive out of the box , after all its an AMG. From my research i found that an x pipe res delete and or secondary cat removal will help.
Im planning to get both done at once, cats and resonator delete.
Can people with both these mods done chime in please and let me how it sounds?
Does it make a difference on what x pipe to get?
Thanks

I'm thinking of going just straight pipes in place of second cats. Yours don't sound too loud with aftermarket high flow cats, so I think with straights it will be just a tiny bit louder although I could be wrong.

Not that much louder at cruise speed but more aggressive at low end. Not as loud as i would thought it would be

Peter did you ever figure out that vibration problem under the drivers side floor?

No I haven't figured it out yet. I jack up the car and check the pipes but didn't see anything rubbing I going to get on a lift and put a load on the engine and see if it rub anything.

I think Omey is talking about NA engines, not S/C. Gains for S/C applications would be greater.
I just took out my x-pipe, there was too much drone on the freeway for me. I was running kleemann headers, downpipes and cats with x- pipe and stock muffler.

Did you put back the resonator? what does drone sound like?

Hello,
Yes I was speaking regarding naturally aspirated engines. SC gains are obviously more.
Regarding the X-pipe & Drone. X-pipe does eliminate more drone compared to just straight pipes but it will allow a bit more grunt to come through, however its more refined than just straight pipes. Furthermore, it does actually improve airflow at high rpms a decent amount.
The main reason Jeff experienced more drone was not b/c of the X-pipe directly but it was because he ran long tube style headers that delete the primary cats and only leave the secondaries, any time you install long tube headers & delete primaries the drone kicks up significantly.
The only real way to prevent drone is to keep all 4 cats in place but upgrade the secondaries to high flow cats and then run a direct bolt-on short tube header that keeps the primaries intact (which is basically what we offer). It won't make AS much power as a long tube header obviously but it still provides significant gains without producing too much drone.
You can still run X-pipes with that setup if you like, OR if you really want to ensure a smooth quality sound you can actually keep stock resonator, keep stock catback and then run X-pipe in place of the secondary cats and then just run aftermarket shorty headers. With this setup you can move the X-pipe much closer to the headers for a more pronounced effect and still maintain your stock resonator which is 100% free flowing anyways and then you delete secondaries at the same time.
Again these are all possible scenarios but its up to the owner to decide which route they want to take. AMS does not condone the removal of emissions equipment (blah blah etc etc) so I would prefer to keep all 4 cats in place by replace them with high flow metal core units, but at the end of the day its up to the driver.
Hope that helps,
~AMS~

I don't know what a "drone" sound like but I haven't heard anything different in the exhaust note except it alittle louder than before. I useually notice when my car have an unusual sound or virbration.
anyone have a sound clip of a "drone" sound?

I did put the resonator back on. It is back to near silent, whoops!
The drone sound is around 2000-2500 rpm and it's louder than the exhaust at higher or lower rpms. I found it to be very irritating on the freeway. Sorry, don't have a sound clip though.

Correct, mine is 2.5. You'll need a couple of mandrel pipes aswell. Though the exhaust shop should be able to make em for you, for an extra charge of course.....
