e55 Ipod integration

Yes, I *did* search but couldn't find anything very definitive.

Am I stuck going the Dension unit route for $500 or is there another way to integrate an Ipod?

TIA

Sry I don't have an answer to your question but could you post pictures of your birdseye door handles?? I've never seen or heard of that before.

Start reading at post 8 in particular.

Note, I've tried the Dice, which is cheaper, but I couldn't get it to work (tried two units and troubleshot with tech support). I would recommend the Dension.

I pulled all four door panels myself - that was interesting!

ALPINE makes a great head unit that controls the IPOD with a remote but you lose the 6 disc changer in the rear.

Foks,

In one of the recent past issues of The Star magazine, there was an article about sending your stock unit to a Becker repair center and they would do it for a nominal fee. I want to say in the $200 range if I remember.

Seems the IPod cord would then snake into the glove box for hook up there.

I'll try to find the issue over the weekend, seems it was two or three months back.

Certain units have an Aux input which is wired into the glove box (COMAND for example has this). Is the Becker repair center option an Aux input? Or does it actually hardwire an iPod, so you can control the iPod from the stereo/steering wheel?

Its probably just an aux in...I did read a similar article in Roundel magazine on how to retrofit an aux in while keeping a stock factory head unit intact (I think that was a blaupunkt)

I simply use a cassette adaptor and run the wire from the front of the factory deck to the IPOD I have velcro mounted to the space above the ignition. It works great.

You can close the cassette door on the factory head unit fully even with the cassette wire coming out, but you have to put a small piece of tape on the end of a plastic sensor on the head unit cassette door so that the "beep" warning (telling you the cassette door is ajar) goes away.

OK - so THAT's what the beeping was

Well I asked Dension if the Gateway 500 would work with the Becker radio and here's what they said:

It should work with one of our Gateway 500 version. Please check if you have a D2B system or MOST system.
Also check our compatibility database:
http://www.dension.com/compatibility...cedes&huMaker=
If you have D2B or Audio20/Audio50 head unit, the Gateway 500 will not be able to write song information to the head unit.
If you have the MOST Command head unit, song information will also be available.

Best regards,
Dension Support Team

So which do we have in the 02 E55? D2B or Audio50 ? I don't think it's 'MOST' is it? (I don't have Comand)

D2B and MOST are the audio bus. The 00-02 W210 uses D2B.

The Audio XX is the headunit. It looks like they're saying it will work.

https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-ele...omplete-3.html

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...my-ipod-4.html

If someone try please can explain the connection diagram? is very confused in the last threads because the installation pictures are mixture by 2 different headunits
