Factory xenon hid issue : bulb or ballast
So my driver side hid bulb been out for couple days now and I was in the process of ordering a new one.. Couple questions as its been cold as hell , dont have a garage and by time i get off work the sun goes down . Now when i turn on my headlights the bulb at question flickers but does not turn on .. Its been to cold to sit out and test the oppisite side to due to fact that the bulb wont come out without unscrewing the torq screws holding in the plastic cover so i was wonderin anyone dealt with this issue before . My guess is if it was the ballast the bulb wouldnt recieve any power at all . But then im also thinking if the bulb was blown it wouldnt recieve any power to flicker at startup . This happened a couple months back for a day or two and somehow just worked again without touching anything now its been about 3-4 days and hasnt come on . Any ideas before i go out in the freezing cold in attempt to figure out if its bulb or ballast .. TIA .. Best Wishes to all in this New Year !!!
also damn 0ver 100 views and no one has ever dealt with this issue time to ask on the other forum
Been searching left and right about how to take this off my self .. Looks like ima just gonna take it to a collision shop if there isnt anyways i can slide out the headlight housings without removing the complete bumper . I seen where the ballast is and wondering did they think they gonna last forever the way they secured them in there lol .. anyhow gonna get there one way or another ..

) finished up Water pump, timing belt, thermostat, re-seal tranny pan and 1 shock w/mount. Topped off with HID. Even in the garage it's freeeeeezing so I feel ya!Armani
..it alots of work for someone who never remove one before..First time it take me over an hour to remove it..but I got the bumper off in 20min the 2nd time. Armani, I sold it along time ago.
Special thanks to pete for the write up and pics .. helped out great . Buddy of mine helped out bigtime and provided big heated warehouse to work in , infact he did most the work i did the mexican labor, lol . But ended up using a ballast from a 01 CLK . fit like a charm , thanks god figuring it was a used ballast . Ended up pulling out the bumper and driver side headlight , my HID ballast was burnt out and so was my high beam . Also my pass. hid foglight was burnt out , thanks god it was only the bulb . Ended up taking out the BS 5k and put in the 3400k golden yellow . I kinda got sik of that tryin to match all whitish looking bulbs when none actually looked the same except from a distance . Anyhow took me about 3 1/2 to remove bumper , headlight , remove complete pass foglight because the housing inside had come loose from the brackets . then had to jimmy rig the foglight xenons because i ran the wiring thru the breather hole so i spliced the wires then fished thru the little hole , buttoned everything back up and viola .. everything works .. God i probably wouldnt have been able todo it without the knowledge of this forum . Love the way the yellow looks in the snow . If my fog xenons burn out anymore< so far only once> I will be throwing my PIAA's back in cuz too much hassle trying to get the HID bulbs in that small *** housing .. here what looks like now
