Transmission service
I have a 00 E55. The transmission had a leak at 38K and dealership fixed the leak and added fluid. My car now has 93K. When would you do a full fluid, filter service?

Don't do it at a dealer as they will only drop the pan and relieve you of 3 quarts of fluid and a filter and $500. I went to to an indy for a pan, filter, cooler, drain, fill, flush, drain fill flush. They got 9 quarts in.
Further, it is now suspected that by only draining 3 quarts and then refilling with the latest .14 MB fluid, transmission failure is imminent within 10,000 miles. It's better to change out as much as you can.
I have heard of some people that have tried the fill-it-as-you-flush-it method which works great but can use 15 quarts or more during the flush. You basically disconnect the lower coolant line and extend a hose to a bucket. Run the engine until it stops pumping fluid out and refill with equivalent amount of new fluid. Keep doing this until the fluid coming out is clean. Run the selector through the positions, flush once more, then top off.

FYI: If your 00 E55 has a production date of 08/99 or earlier, there should be an torque convertor drain plug. After 08/99 the torque convertor drain plug was eliminated.

That is great. Too bad the dealers I have dealt with in LA are "scheisters". Merc, BMW, Ford and some Mazda and Volvo dealers. OTOH, Some Mazda and Volvo dealers were good.

Is this tranny service a DIY job? My W211 has the 7 spd. and a 39K mile (one-time) fluid replacement is recommended, but only by the dealer. (I don't think there is a drain plug).
So if I read one of the above posts correctly, for the W210, is a flush recommended every 2years, and is that a DIY job?
Tks.
