2001 E55 AMG
Played tag with a Z8 beemer
Don't normally race, but today I ended up behind a BMW Z8 roadster (the $120k variety) at a stop light. He looked in his rear view mirror and saw my E55.
Once the light turned green he punched it, as did I (figured he might).
I stayed on his tail the whole time, the cars seemed very evenly matched. He seemed a little perturbed that he didn't blow me away.
He was probably thinking he could have saved 50 grand and got what I had. : )
Anyone know the specs on a Z8? It was a nice looking car (not that I would buy one). Is it supposed to be faster than an E55?
2001 E55 AMG, brilliant silver, silver/charcoal.

At speeds over 110 mph, the E55 clearly pulls away.
From 0-125 mph, the E55 is around 2 seconds faster than the Z8. At higher speeds, the Z8 stands no chance (I had one Z8 encounter about two weeks ago ).
What I love about the Z8 is the exhaust sound, as good as on the SL55 (if not better) and much better than on my E55.

The Z8 is suppose to be a tad faster than a w210 E55, so you held your own in your '01 E55!
Many folks under estimate the pace of the good old E55. In real world driving, it's a close match for any machine out there in the 4.5-5.0 sec 0-60mph league. Driver skills, reaction time, and road conditions can make the difference.

I think...
That to about 80 he could have slightly pulled on you or stayed even and then after that he is all yours! Z8's are notorious for having bad performance above 100, because of their aerodynamics. This is just what I have heard from a Z8 owner though.
Cheers.

As I can see you're an Audi fanatic, how about the Audi RSR?
Real thing, coming out at the IAA 2003 in Frankfurt.

I'm guessing he might have thought your car was a normal E-class and figured he could blow u away instantly. Good job keeping up and surprising him .
