I also just changed my fuel filter (less than five miles ago). Every other time I start it using the "auto-start" feature (turn key all the way and let the ECU do the rest), it will sit and crank for about 10-20 seconds before firing. I did prime the fuel filter by letting some of the fuel from the tank drain into it while I had the lines off.
Ideas?
vincentie, I will ask my mechanics when I get to the shop tomorrow. I am not all that great with troubleshooting MB. I generally just toss it to my techs to deal with. I mod, they fix. I'll post up tomorrow if I have anything from them.

but is there some other way to start it besides the "auto-start"? I ask because it seemed like you wanted to point out that you were using this feature as if there was some other way besides the "auto-start". My C43 is the same as far as turning the key and the car starting by itself.

Nice 202 you have BTW

Normally, after the install, the car should take a little longer to start until it builds back up the pressure, but not after that. If you did the install correctly and used an OEM or similar fuel filter I don't see what could've gone wrong. I believe if you didn't install it correctly the car wouldn't start at all. Or if somehow the car takes air into the system, but then the CEL would be triggered for a large vacuum leak...
If you think your problem is fuel delivery related I would check my fuel pump...and by that I mean to do a fuel pressure test using a fuel pressure gauge. There is a possibility that the fuel filter you had before was somewhat clogged and now that you've changed it,the gas flow has improved dramatically and also the pressure in the system has changed. The car can run rough because of this issue if your fuel pump pressure is too weak OR if it's too strong.
Good luck!

If we're on this note, how we don't know it's not the Crankshaft position sensor, which is located at the back of the engine?
Here...read this...second page. He has the M113 engine that we have in our cars :

The cam sensor is right on the front of the passenger cylinder bank. I'll take a picture of it this weekend for you.
Regarding the scanner; what is your budget?
Cheers!
