park sputter
My car recently started acting weird on start up (taking a while before it turns over). I recently well about 1000 miles ago changed the Fuel filter. I also have massive sputtering at 4000 rpm while iam in park, but when iam driving seems fine ! Could I have disturbed something or a non related issue?

Along the same note...
I also just changed my fuel filter (less than five miles ago). Every other time I start it using the "auto-start" feature (turn key all the way and let the ECU do the rest), it will sit and crank for about 10-20 seconds before firing. I did prime the fuel filter by letting some of the fuel from the tank drain into it while I had the lines off.
Ideas?
vincentie, I will ask my mechanics when I get to the shop tomorrow. I am not all that great with troubleshooting MB. I generally just toss it to my techs to deal with. I mod, they fix. I'll post up tomorrow if I have anything from them.

but is there some other way to start it besides the "auto-start"? I ask because it seemed like you wanted to point out that you were using this feature as if there was some other way besides the "auto-start". My C43 is the same as far as turning the key and the car starting by itself.
Nice 202 you have BTW

It may help or may not so I'll mention anyway that I reset every computer in the car today using Xentry/Star diagnostic on my MB laptop. Tranny computer, ECU, etc. The problem persists even after that.

Could be our fuel pressure regulators/MAF/fuel pump. Is you're CEL light on? Have you scanned it with STAR?

No, but never had a problem before I changed that fuel filter! The auto start sometimes is much worse than others and if I start it quickly again its fine, so I think its related to the filter somehow!

Somehow I don't see how this is related to the fuel filter...
Normally, after the install, the car should take a little longer to start until it builds back up the pressure, but not after that. If you did the install correctly and used an OEM or similar fuel filter I don't see what could've gone wrong. I believe if you didn't install it correctly the car wouldn't start at all. Or if somehow the car takes air into the system, but then the CEL would be triggered for a large vacuum leak...
If you think your problem is fuel delivery related I would check my fuel pump...and by that I mean to do a fuel pressure test using a fuel pressure gauge. There is a possibility that the fuel filter you had before was somewhat clogged and now that you've changed it,the gas flow has improved dramatically and also the pressure in the system has changed. The car can run rough because of this issue if your fuel pump pressure is too weak OR if it's too strong.
Good luck!

If we're on this note, how we don't know it's not the Crankshaft position sensor, which is located at the back of the engine?
Here...read this...second page. He has the M113 engine that we have in our cars :

Nope. I scanned it yesterday and nothing came up relating to what would cause that. Just some random codes (headlight actuator, rain sensor, alarm activation on LF door).

I am embarrassed to say I don't remember if they have rev limiters in park. With two M113's under my belt you'd think I'd know. I am inclined to say that yes, they have governors at 4k rpm in park. Don't quote me on that though. I just got my cam position sensor, fuel pump, and a crank position sensor. I will get to work on them tomorrow and post up if it helped.

Reporting back.... I replaced the camshaft position sensor, crank position sensor, fuel pump, battery, scanned it with Xentry, and I have no more problems!

The crank sensor is slightly tricky. Here's a link on a DIY: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r129...on-sensor.html
The cam sensor is right on the front of the passenger cylinder bank. I'll take a picture of it this weekend for you.
Regarding the scanner; what is your budget?
Cheers!
