Glad to hear you are still enjoying the car and running strong at 220k+ miles.
The asr/abs is a easy fix. You need a brake light switch $30. Do a search under my name I have a DYI for this.
cheers!

I bought a 99 back in may with black and blue leather! Looks great. It had 226,000 mi when I got her now she had 230,000 mi, she was fully serviced by the previous owner always at the dealership. What a beast ! Feels better then a lot of newer cars and for way less money! I paid $6400.00 only issue is the asr/abs light going on but that happened on my previous 99 e320 also , it's no big deal , it always goes away after you restart her up. I think they engineer problems like that to get people into the dealership. Anyways the forum here is pretty good , would love help getting some rear side window roller shades though. Someone out there please help!

I brought my silver 99 E55 in 2012 and then the 02E55 in 2013. Both are going strong the, 99 has 123k the 02 has 116k. On the 02 I've done the front and back brakes and rotors, rep laced both rear window regulators , driver side wheel hub , both fogs lights replaced , and req maintenance, the 99 I've replaced the water pump, one fog , belt and pulley wheel , I forget what it's called , crank position sensor my indi did. I'm about to order wires and plugs for both next week. As a whole it's a very solid and tight ride, still a great looking car.

I have to say I was I little nervous about driving these in the winter snow, I've always driven a Audi, or some other awd vehicle , BUT , it was a piece of cake , the 02 is lowered, but kicked azz , I'm running the continental DWS's on both. I did have to clear my driveway b4 pulling them out in heavy snow , the Audi I used to blast through no shoveling required.

I'm still going with 193k and counting! Need to rebuild AC system now as evaporator core is toast. And cats are going slowly, no rattling but slight decrease in efficiency I believe. She still goes 140mph with ease as was tested just last week. I do however only put ethanol free in it and I do notice the difference, especially at idle.

I am currently at 249k miles. The car looks and drives excellent. I have had to replace the driver side front spring perch, the passenger rear window regulator, and one taillight bulb. Other than that, this car is solid. The build quality really shines through at this high of mileage. I am a mechanic, so I get to drive A LOT of cars on a daily basis, I have driven cars with 200k less miles that have more interior rattles, clunks, thuds etc (usually gm cars that do this). The only rattle I have is when the moonroof is fully open and even that is very subtle. I plan on keeping this car for a long time!

I have an outback for the winter and kept the E55 for the other three months

Been lurking for awhile guys, myself along with my brother have owned more than several odd Mercedes over the years. My most recent being a One owner 97 S600 coupe with 74k that I traded for this car. 2002 E55 One owner 76k. Brother owned a 2001 that I loved, but was never the same after I hit a 18 wheeler tire around 80 mph. Anyhow just wanted to say hello, and I'll happily contribute though my DIY ability is slightly degraded due to not having a garage. Cheers and look forward to contributing.

Just hit 180,000 miles
At 180,000 miles.
I can't replace this car.
It still pulls a low 13 second quarter.
It still runs to 151 mph in the standing mile.
It hangs with 911's and S4's in the canyon.
It still gets parked in front when I valet.
It still gets 21-23mpg at 85 mph to Vegas.
It's still quiet, smooth, comfy, and beautiful (my opinion).
With the assistance of a trusted Indie mechanic, cost of ownership has been fractional compared to my GM cars.

180k Is nothing for these cars! I will be at 250k within the next few weeks. It still runs wonderful, not even a tick from the engine. Every single electronic works, the only rattle is the sunroof when fully open. I have gotten up to 27mpg on the highway at 55, and it will easily get 24 on the freeway at 70-75.
It is the most comfortable car I have ever owned as well.
It will still get down and move with the best of them, 100+ feels just as stable as sitting still.
She may be 13 years old, with a quarter million miles, but it has seemingly aged like wine.

Hello, all. Not quite an owner yet, working on it. I've been lurking for about two weeks, trying to find out all I can on the W210 E55 AMG. We are in the process of buying one from a car lot. However, there seems to be a concern with the VIN that maybe someone here can help me with. It seems that this car was originally registered and owned in Japan, and has been recently imported into Canada. All the paper work (Canadian) is done, the vehicle is here legally and registered. The problem lies in the fact that MB Canada and MB USA cannot find the VIN in their respective data bases. They say that if the vehicle was not previously registered in North America, there is no way of knowing if the VIN is correct. I have tried the online VIN decoders (seven of them) and they all come back with the same answer: wrong or incomplete information. The decoders do not like the year code or the ID code. So, I guess my question is this: does anyone here know how I can get good info from the VIN? Or do I have to go to MB Japan for answers? Thanks in advance.
Part two, for your info: 1999 E55 AMG W210, black on black, full stock, 67K miles, original tires and wheels (I have ordered rims and snow tires, on spec), if all goes according to Hoyle, will pick it up January 31. Then I register as an official orphan and member here.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Would love to own a 2001 or 2002 E55 and a 2005 C55. I have a 2006 E55, but it's the W211 chassis. I've always been a big fan of the car and I just can't stop loving the original E55! Been looking fairly thoroughly and regularly for 2-3 years.

illest and madmobman - thanks for the responses. After much digging and clicking, I think I found what I need. I haven't seen this mentioned here, or on other threads, so it may be common knowledge or not. If you "google" http://mercedes-benz-teile.info/, and enter in your VIN, your data sheet will show up.

I confess...I'm only a partime participant and should have responded earlier, but I do love my '99 E55. She's not a DD and sits in the garage too much - she has 54k on her. The rear seat's only been used several times! I'm the 3rd owner and have had her for 5 years and have had no probs to speak of.
When I bought my SL65 several years ago I planned on selling the 55. I've had her up for sale several times and have had some interest; however, I just can't part with her, she's been so reliable, drivable, fun. She's Black on Black and has a unique, and working, MB nav system (not COMMAND) - the orig salesman / dealership remembers installing the system upon arrival (b4 owner took possession) because the owner didn't like COMMAND. I seldom drive her in the rain and has never been driven in the snow that I'm aware of (based on info from previous owners).
I just put her up for the winter

Based on this thread, I've been missing much by not visiting this site more often! Lesson learned...

Everyday
Drive mine everyday. Just did a trip to Houston and back with the wife, around 400 miles or so. Just under 300 miles until the 200k mark.
It has its problems and I'm sorting through them one at a time. Most I think came from collapsed catalytic converters and either a leak in the EVAP system or a leak in vacuum lines which caused the misfires that collapsed the catalytic converters.

I've got a 2002 E55, Obsidian Black / Dark Grey interior, about 72K. Apparently mine is just an infant still looking at some of the miles I see on this forum. I bought it new and it was a sunny day/weekend car for a while but when someone totaled my 1996 Nissan Maxima SE, the E55 became my daily driver. I'm good to it and it's been good to me.

Are you using the Leatherique as a one-time treatment or as a regular maintenance product?
For about a year I've been using Lexol's 3-1 Leather Care product and really like it. I had tried their separate cleaner and conditioner products on previous cars but they were more labor intensive than I preferred.

The passenger seat is definitely a bit dry and the natural folds in the leather don't show anymore. I told myself I'd leatherique annually, but it's been 2+ years since I last did it. It's very labor intensive and I tend to wipe the seats down with a damp towel then just use lexol conditioner for maintenance. That being said, I'd like to leatherique again this summer when the weather is warmer, but we'll have to see if that actually happens.
