E55 Wanted

I had a 211 and I agree that it has more hi-tech gadgets but it also gave me more service problems.
Also the 210 has more leg room (i am 6'4") I like the one wiper and the car gave me limited service issues. I think the 210 was a better built car than the 211. I want the AMG because it was the top of the line and has options not often found on the 350 or 430 like NAV, rear shade, dynamic seats, ventilated seats and a better driving experience.
As this is a gift to myself I want to hold out for the best.
Thank you for your thoughts and for the link to craigs list. I try to look at craigs list once a week but you have to search each market separately.

I feel the dealers prices are inflated on these cars and if they arnt offering a warrenty with it then IMHO pricewise I would look for private 1-2 owner you have much more room to bargain with . But if somone spent $5k plus in maintanence then he might not wiggle much .. Goodluck and as always we only want the BEST for ourselves lol
btw. if your searching craigslist .
look at this site

it give you a broader view instead of having to look city for city

I found another 2002 car with 60,000 miles. GPS, Ventilated seats, Parktronic, black with black interior. It seems like a nice car and I plan to go and test drive it. It is black and I prefer silver but I may have to compromise.
THe dealer wants $21,000. It seems high to me. May I ask for thoughts from this forum?
Thank you and best regards,
phil
Between the two, I´d definitely shell out the money for a low mile vs a high mile car full of problems!
And I dont know the US marked well at all, but it sounds to me that 21k leaves a bit of room for negotiation.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I would tend to agree with Rex and Martin. A PPI is a must when buying this type car, as you found out with the other. Do educate yourself on the simple items to look for. Ask for the receipts and the dealer service printout, if available. If they give you a line along the "PO Privacy" issue, tell them to just delete the P.O.'s name.
At $21k, there is a lot of wiggle room. You may be able to get down to that $16-17 range or lower, depending on a number of items. Make sure it has a FACTORY E55 front windshield also, as there are no others.
Last, although I try to be pretty knowledgeable on these cars, I don't recall the Park-tronic being offered over here on these E55's. I may be wrong. I never liked the look of the Park-tronic anyway. Looked like a bunch of pock marks on the bumper cover. I prefer the smooth look.
Keep us posted on your search.

And as for that 21k E55, it sounds really nice Phil. Let us know what happens!

I did a car-fax and autocheck. I can ask for the service but the DMV inspection data shows the car was driven about 4500 miles a year.
I feel like if I want to join the e55 club I have to be ready to pay for repairs. The enjoyment I will get is worth it. I will get more fun than owning a $20,000 wrist watch like some of the people i do business with even though my $25 Timex tells me what time it is for a lot less money.
How is that for an attempt to convince myself to throw caution to the wind?
I will offer the seller $20k. I imagine he will take it if I pay on the spot. If I buy it I will send photos.
Wish me luck...
I now have to find a way to convert or retrofit the phone in the car to use Bluetooth
thanks for reading

Good question and this may be the subject for a separate thread.
The US E55's only came from the factory with 2 types of coloured windshields, green or blue. Your VIN number will give that info. When insurance companies or P.O.'s that need to replace the windshield, often to save money, they will replace with a less expensive unit from the E320 or E430.
Those lesser windshields will not only be clear but may or may not have the rain sensor and/or dark band across the top.

If you need to replace and your insurance company tells you otherwise, they are wrong. Don't let them get away with telling you the coloured one is more expensive and will cost you more. Your deductable is the same. Make sure you get the correct windshield in your car. It only helps keep the value up and makes you more knowledgeable when looking at one to buy.
Good luck!

Mike K.

I will try to post a photo.
Thank you all for helping me.

It's not a very common color you see on a W210 E55. I think there's only one other guy here that owns the same color.
I will try to post a photo.

You did pick the best color for these cars. There are several E55s around here and I'm the only Tectite Grey one. Another local member did PM me about a black E55 wagon he saw one day around here. Being in the US that is the holy grail of these cars IMO.

May I ask a procedural question... Do I post them here or do I start a new thread?
Also I have to make some repairs and I want to ask the Forum for advice. Do I do that here are start a new thread?
For instance:
The car has some scratches how do I deal whit them? I read online some people use wet sanding and buffing with all sorts of different products.
I want to fix some burned out pixels in the dashboard
I want to find rubber floor mats.
I want to retrofit the analog V60 phone in the car so I can use my iPhone via Bluetooth
I want to add satellite radio and I saw people on line connect SR to the CD input because command 2.0 has no AUX button.
There is a small imperfection in the door and I believe that can be fixed by some sort of vinyl repair person
Also I have a question, I forget but does the 210 turn signal have a feature that allows you to touch the turn signal and it flashes 3 times or is lat only on newer cars??
So as you can see I have a list of things I want to do. Do I start new threads for each?
Thank you for reading my long post!
Best Regards
Phil

My advice. Keep the command for future sale, but do yourself a favour and stick in a modern Navi unit ;-)
Cheers!
Martin

I will send the dash to the Pixel guy you found. there is another guy in North Carolina also.
I bought the new floor mats you suggested.. thanks
Thanks for the clarification on the turn signal. That is unfortunate.
As for the GPS.. this car come with a add on Garmin that was professionally installed with a custom made mounting bracket so my GPS needs are met. I think I found a device to link my phone to the on-board phone in the Comand.
I am going to look at the replacement options but connecting satellite radio or pandora to the CD output is simpler and less money.
I watched a review of your unit and of the alpine and I think I like the Alpine better.
Still the simple way may be to keep what i have.
can you post a photo of your dash with the new unit installed?
thanks again Martin you are a nice guy!
Heres my instrument cluster. My instrument cluster is different from yours as I have the pre-facelift or pre-modelupdate. However I will post an image of it since you asked. :-)

Rubber mats are great! Keeps the car nice and tidy.
As for the GPS/Navi unit I see you are already well sorted so no problems there. Hope the phone hook up will be satisfactory.
I´ll be sure to let you know next time we are in the big apple Phil ;-)
Cheers,
Martin

However I am thinking about disconnecting the CD in the trunk and connecting a XM radio to it so that when I hit the CD button on the Comand I hear satellite radio. I use that more than the iPod. then I can use the AUX for iPod when my wife is with me and can operate the iPod.
I found a Bluetooth adapter on ebay that works with he 210 and iPhone so I think I am good to go.
I still wonder if I can install lights that go on and off automatically.
More to follow
thanks
phil
