E55 Wanted

However I am thinking about disconnecting the CD in the trunk and connecting a XM radio to it so that when I hit the CD button on the Comand I hear satellite radio. I use that more than the iPod. then I can use the AUX for iPod when my wife is with me and can operate the iPod.
I found a Bluetooth adapter on ebay that works with he 210 and iPhone so I think I am good to go.
I still wonder if I can install lights that go on and off automatically.
More to follow
thanks
phil

I wondered if I could mount a radio behind the ash tray cover. Can you close the ash tray door when you are not using the radio?
Which model receiver do you use?
Can I assume that you use the AUX button for the satellite radio or do you send the signal via FM?
If you use the AUX button how do you also have a iPod connector?? Does one override the other or is the iPod plugged in tandem with the CD?
Can you send a photo?
I think your solution is the most elegant I have seen so far.
Thanks
Phil
I use a Sirius unit, I had this installed back in 07, so I don't know if anything like it exists today. The ashtray door closes fine, the unit is recessed with plenty of room.
The Aux selection is for the satellite radio. For the external device, I have a little rocker switch hidden under the dash to change the input.
I am enclosing a couple pics from when the unit was installed - they are not the clearest as they were taken with a phone 5 years ago. If you want other pics, I can try to take them tomorrow.

I'll get mine out and send it to them if that's the case.

That is a very elegant design and I think I will do the same. The dash switch is a nice touch and allows you to use a iPad.
I am sure that you can control the volume from the steering wheel. Can you control the station on the satellite rado or the tracks on the iPad from the steering wheel?
Thanks again!
Phil

1. the firm in Boston suggested above charges 115 and takes 3 days.
2. There is a company in Canada which I excluded because of US and Canada customs problems,
3. A Chicago area firm for $145
4.the firm http://abetterwrench.net/ in NC and they charge $175
I spoke to all 4 and in my opinion the NC company in NC at 175 is the way to go. I spoke to Max at 919 929 6921 and he is a enthusiast who loves cars and seems to care about the customer. The others did not seem to care at all. It was just about the money.
Max said he uses some special parts rather than cut the old broken cable and re-use it so that sounds better also.
I will report again when the job is done.

I do not believe the ipod or satellite radio track/station can be changed via the steering wheel controls. If is is possible, I have no idea how it works, but I don't think either are made to be tuned by the car. The satellite radio unit has its own preset buttons.
The radio head unit is in a special felt covered housing that I think can still be sourced by custom stereo installlers. I got the idea from visiting a high end customizing store, and seeing it in another MB.
