Hello gang..
Im new to this forum, just bought a 99 E55 AMG,. and I have to say I love this car.. so far

I have a few questions I hope you can help me with..

On the attached image, there is a large motor? on the front of the engine (highligthed yellow).. this is not in my car.. what is it ?

and, on the right side (inner fender) of the wngine, also yellow on the image to the left, there is a small pump.. what is this pump?

aaand.. finally.. where is the EGR valve on this engine?

It has a rough idle, up to around 2000rpm, and I have been reading here that it can be a clogged EGR valve.. I have spark plugs on order and the MAF is brand new... when starting cold its very rough,. like a carb engine without the choke.. almost worse..

thanks !!!

I can't tell you what those are, but I can tell you my car does not have them. I'll be watching for an answer.

That's the secondary air injection pump.

Rob is right, the front one is "Air Pump",,

the side one is "Heater Recirculation Pump"..

It's designed to reduce emissions, by helping the engine quickly reach operating temperature.

Air pump is injected fresh air to the exhaust stream to allow better & fuller combustion of exhaust recirculation gases,,

EGR located at the back of the Engine, beside MAF sensor(see the arrow)...
