Hello all,
I just bought 99 E55 black on black with navigation.
It has 75k miles. One owner (my boss). As he had other people take it for service he is not sure what exactly was ever done to the car. I assume dealer did all the regular maintenance. car is in like brand new condition as it was never driven in winters or bad weather (always garaged).
I payed 6k dollars for it. I think that was a steal.
Recently done: Alignment ($300), Battery($350)
I come from Volvo family, so I was wondering what is the common thing i should watch out for, or is there something that needs to be serviced, to ensure that the car will keep running smooth.
Not a big fan of 275/35/18 in the back as Michigan roads are really crappy but I guess I can learn how to live with it.

Welcome to the forum! I would start by scouring the forum for similar posts, such as the one you posted. There are plenty of newbies here... of course, as time goes on they're not newbies after awhile. Here's a similar post to yours with some helpful info:

Quick question, what does the tire size have to do with the quality of the roads you drive on? The roads aren't the best here in Chicago either, but I'm not sure I get the correlation.
Have fun here, you'll learn a lot, for sure. A lot of guys have years of experience with the W210 E55 and just about every question can be answered here.

These are all around very solid cars. Make sure the trans fluid has been changed, check the front spring perches as they are know to fail, and window regulators. Mine has 254k miles on it and still runs great. Little minor things show up now and then, but never anything too concerning. The wide tires like you said, do not do well on snow etc. You could get a set of e430 wheels with much narrower tires and it would do much better.

My issue was with low profile. I would hate to bend the wheel. And yes i plan on getting set of wheels with winter tires.
now I just have to look up whats required for Transmission fluid change

I would definitely recommend that you flush/change your transmission fluid AND filter.

$300 for an alignment and $350 for a battery (installed) is a bit on the high side. Where are you taking the car? Those prices are even high for dealer prices; my dealer in California charges me $200 and $250 respectively.Originally Posted by obarac

something is not right, did they install the alignment bolt kit?In Canada we are getting raped by Mercedes dealers but still, an alignment will cost you ~$130 including tax. $350 for battery is not bad

My advice is look for another dealer
Good luck
