I may be looking for another AMG.
One that is in superb condition.

I was hoping you guys can explain to me what vehicle is better, the E or S and why?
Thanks.
That'd be from the same year 2002.

It depends on what you are looking for.
The E-class:
-Is easier to work on (conventional suspension and less electronics....)
-Shares many parts with non-AMG w210s -> cheaper to maintain.
-Less weight, so more fun.
-Obviously smaller in size.
-W210 is considered to be a modern classic, many prefer the way it looks.

The S-class:
- ABC suspension, It it's a double edged sword. It's gives you control over suspension and it's nice to have top-tier suspension technology, but when it goes-out it'll cost an arm and a leg.
- More comfortable.
- Spacious cabin & trunk.
- IMO the era of Mercedes futuristic/modern designs began with the W220 and the 211.
- Heavier, ABC will stop body roll but still a > 2 ton car is less fun to drive.
- I've driven a W140, 220, 221 and for me I think that it's a car to be driven by someone else, the fun is in riding as a passenger and enjoying all the stuff

Since both'd be 2002, the engine ( N/A ) & transmission are the same.
To conclude, I still prefer the 210!

I personally think the S-class of that vintage has aged better aesthetically than the E-class. However, I would not purchase the S-Class of that same year you cited (2002) primarily due to the fact that the S-Class comes with a considerably higher price tag on the used market in spite of the fact it has the same engine and drivetrain as the 2002 E55. Now if you step up to a 2003 S-Class, you are talking big difference in that the engine is now supercharged. Personally, I wouldn't want a heavier S-Class with the same engine as our E55s if I was spending my own money. Now, if someone gave me the keys to an S55 and said, "take it, it's yours.." I wouldn't hesitate! But if given the choice based on value per dollar/horsepower per dollar, I would stick with my E-class, since you're going to spend more on a comparable '02 S-Class. What you're really paying for is a few more doo-dads (of questionable value - the ABC in particular can be just as easily viewed as a negative than it could be viewed positively), and a bit more prestige as the S-Class is still viewed to be a bit more "elite" in my mind as opposed to the somewhat dated W210 fascia.

The E55 is more reliable, faster than S55.
E55 handle better with coilover kit.
IMO, E55 look much more classic than S55.

Thanks Fellas.
There's a 2001 E55 for sale in canada here that has about 95,000 km. on it. That's less than 60K miles. It's supposed to be mint and babied.
The guy is asking $13,500 Canadian.
Is this too much?
Your opinions?

Question: Why do these cars rust out like Fiats from the 70's ?

I've read about it but you probably know better than I!

My 2000 is sitting in the garage in hibernation and every time I go into the garage I see another rust bubble.
That's like going to the club and thinking you're a Stud with major acne.

Well apparently Mercedes in all their greatness! used water based paint + the coating was thin. Also snow/salt adds insult to injury for cars in the North and East.
