Check your Front Shock Top Mounts, there could be a hidden defect and a potentially a serious safety issue when the Top Mount "bowl" separates from the chassis. It is bolted to the chassis only in 3 spots.
Even a low mileage car can suffer from this defect. Check the photos.

CORRECT - Top Mount "Bowl" in place

Pretty common in the w210 chassis. I hate to burn the factory paint in this place welding this bowls to the chassis again

Hi Fabio, what are some other known issues? I wonder why this has not been made sticky if it is so common.

Well. Is a common issue in the w210 but is not potentialy catastrofic. when fell off make some noise and you will see some rust comming from the area but nothing mayor like this. to weld it again, the paint in this area got burned and i hate to repaint this place. A mayor issue with the suspension componnents in the w210 chassis is the front spring perch's (here are to many threads about this situation) they rust and fell of and front suspension colide. This is a pretty pretty bad issue in this cars, is most common in cars used in salty ice roads cause the weather.

I'm aware of the front spring perch issue. Isn't it more common on a pre-2000 W210?
Well I hope the W210 doesn't have any other surprises.
After replacing almost every major suspension component and checking the whole car thoroughly, I have quite a good confidence in my car

I have the same issue on my car on the same side. The cup is a tiny bit jiggly. The other side is good. I have been spaying it with rust inhibitor till I finally get around to replacing the shocks and springs.

Jan AMG did you re weld yours? I have done almost every piece too and she drives great!!

I have never seen a thread about this topic. Thanks for sharing!

Hi, yes I rewelded mine. I had also undone the other side, and rewelded it too, just in case.
Before mounting the shocks back back to place, applied the original conservation wax around the cups to prevent rusting.
I'm glad this thread helps!

I checked mine tonight and see some rust. What's exactly is the fix on this? Guess I could spray with some rust inhibitor for now.

Is it just a surface rust? I think the rust inhibitor should be fine and you are good for couple of years.
