Passenger footwell water and carpet removal

Hi guys/gals,

longtime lurker first time poster. While driving to work this morning, I noticed a message "Calling Emergency SOS" that kept appearing and disappearing on my 30 minute commute. Then my interior light and power locks kept going on and off, car wouldn't lock, alarm would go off by itself. I thought, no big deal, probably one of the door sensors is toast. Boy, was I wrong. When I got home this afternoon I wanted to pull the battery and dig in. Of course, battery compartment has a good (bad) amount of water in it.I pulled rear passanger carper to see where the water is coming from and that area was SOAKED as well. I decided to go to the front and guess what...Passenger footwell is wet too - I assume it is where the water is originating? I have a couple questions:

1. Where do I go from here to eliminate the "leak"?
2. Carpets are toast (soaked, moldy) - I'm planning on replacing all carpeting inside after 1. is completed. Are you aware of any DIY write up on how to to that?

I appreciate the help,

Mike

Maybe you have a rubber plug broken somewhere and water enters or the compartment on passengers side in the engine bay is filled with debris and water flooded your floor?
You have to remove carpets and inspect where it leaks.
If you don't dry the swamp it will rust the floor.

Well, there is a little bit of rust on the floor but I’m planning on taking care of that while the seats are out.I checked sunroof drains and they are fine.I didn’t have a chance to get underneath the car to check the AC drain. Will I be able to access and possibly clean it from underneath?

if you use 4x axle stands on each corner as a safety precaution you can work under the car.
easier would be to put the car on a hoist and lift it to the sky, much easier to work underneath.

maybe one of your grommets gone bad and water leaks somewhere?

This is most likely the cause.

Im assuming the w210 has the same system as a w202. Very common

https://mbworld.org/forums/c36-amg-c...rm-drains.html

When those get clogged, the water accumulates and leaks into the cabin through the AC vent/fan

Happened to both of my cars.

Thanks for the responses. I will be digging into that issue more this weekend, however I did unplug PSE pump and took it apart. Circuit board shows quote a bit of corrosion which I cleaned with contact cleaner and toothbrush.

PSE Pump motor has black dust all over it and smells "metalic" if it makes sense.

Is it toast (was still running a few days ago) or should I source a new one just for the peace of mind?

If not yet, it will be in due time. Make sure that you get the same/right part number if not new and also know that it may need to be programmed by Star depending on you options.

As far as my research went, there were 3 different part numbers for PSE pump in W210 AMG, 2108002748, 2108001948 and 2108003048 (this is the one in my car). The only difference I could see between the 3 was vacuum cable set up based on options. Since I have contour seats in mine, I made sure to get one that has a cable coming out of MKL line hookup (everything else was the same). Hopefully it will work (part # I got is 2108002748). I will report back if it worked without programming or not.

If it does not...Is there a specific item on the circuit board that I can swap out to ensure correct programming?I'm not sure if its stored on the pump itself.

Mine was the 2748. If its the same number it should be plug and play however I am not sure if circuit board changes would work on an alternate part number. Different part numbers did not work out for me. Also that pump is tied to several things like the alarm, rear dome light, defroster if i remember correctly

I ordered one off ebay but it didn't work for me. I was able to dry and clean my old pump, plug it in and it works like a dream. To fix everything right,I removed both seats, front and rear carpets, dried them and replaced this crappy evaporator drain hose? that MB put into those cars. The piece is about 5 inches long and is made out of a spring, covered by foam and then by vinyl (which disintegrated, hence the leak). I replaced it with A/C hose I got from O'Reilly's and it all works. I have pictures of the process if anybody is interested.

Thanks everybody for the help,

Mike

Glad it worked out!

Yea when I replaced my evaporator, I replaced both sides with clear vinyl tubing for like $1.50 vs the $10 ea spring loaded tubing.

I ordered 3 pumps at the time and 2 did not work, I sold one off since the board worked but the pump was dead, the other I still have.
