Brake Pads & Rotors

I borught my car in today for its B Service and was told that it needed new pads and rotors (at 25,000 miles).

Has anyone used any other pads/rotors on their E55 to reduce brake dust? I would like to maintain the car's awesome stopping power and have cleaner wheels.

I would also like info about other rotor options as well that people have tried (I'm not interested in cross-drilled due to potential cracking problems).

I'm looking for input from people who have actually put these on their car, not just what is potentially available.

TIA,

Mike VM

E55
You should contact Evosport about getting your brakes upgraded.

BTW, how is the rest of the car holding up after 25K? Mine just went over 5,000 miles.

01 Silver E55 - happily, no problems.

I don't know about the E55, but the factory brake calipers (at least the fronts) on my CL55 are indeed Brembo. They say Brembo on the inside side caliper. The C32 brakes are Brembos as well.

I think AMG is using Brembo calipers for all current AMG vehicles. Don't quote me on this but it would be nice to know if the E55 uses these same calipers as well.

The MBUSA site for the CL55 and S55 quotes, "Brakes: Dual-circuit power-assisted 4-wheel discs. Cross-drilled and internally ventilated front discs with 4-piston Brembo fixed-type calipers. Internally ventilated rear discs with dual-pistons sliding calipers."

however, for the E55 the MBUSA site says, "Brakes: AMG 4-wheel ventilated disc, two piece front rotors with 4-piston calipers."

Hmmm..

Tirerack lists the EBC pads as being avail. Anyone tried these? The std pads/discs are great performance wise, but don't last and throw off so much dust. I am on my 3rd set of pads and 2nd rotor at 25k miles. Also sick of cleaning the bloody wheels! I use Pagid on my Porsche, but am concerned about them being a bit hard on discs with the E55 as I have already been through 2 front discs using OEM pads.

Brabus brake systems are good. Infact for my E-class they sell 3 versions of it. Version 1 which is basically the front system and then version 2 which is the front and rear brake system (no calipers just rotors) and then version 3 which are the front and rear brake systems comprised of 2 four piston calipers for the front and 2 rear calipers and four drilled rotors.

Actually for the stock calipers for the E55 i think they are plain AMG's which are not bad but Brembos are the way to go.

You are both right, the E55 does not have Brembo's, while the CL/S/SL do. These are brakes made by Brembo for Mercedes. While these brakes are great, they are not the same as upgrading to the F40/F50 caliper that Brembo offers aftermarket.

Thanks

Ben
