after 8k miles it happened again, after stopping and then starting around a corner the car just died; it started immediately and then didn't do it again for the day. steering is really heavy without assist.

Mine has done it twice...most recently a month ago. Does anyone know the cause of this problem? My dealer looks at me like I'm crazy or something when I tell him. Of course, tech always comes back saying "cannot duplicate problem."
Sometimes I feel like I'm crazy bringing my car in for service...

I've probably had more "stalls" than anyone else here. Dealer has no idea what it is. The last time it was in they had a regional MB tech come in and at my recommendation, replaced the crank sensor. It hasn't stalled since, but I don't think it fixed the problem. I was in downtown Boston a few weeks ago in severe stop and go traffic and I could tell the car wasn't right. Gets kinda lungy or jumpy when taking your foor off the gas. Didn't shut off, but gave me the same feeling as the times when it shut off in the past.
The dealer, as some of you know offered to replace the car but I have not taken them up on it yet.

Chris...
i've had similar issues with the lunging. On my car, iit feels like the engine computer is applying more gas to prevent the car from stalling.
My best guess is, it has something to do with the fuel delivery system... ??? Or, no?

Chris - You probably recall that I have had very similar stalling issues. I've also had the lunging you describe above. Fortunately, it's been a while since either has occurred. I'm convinced that we have the same root issue. I appreciate you sharing how this progresses.

mine too, but a while ago...
I also have my crank sensor change, but still happen once after that...it's about 3 months (maybe without any problem.) Another thought, anyone with this problem also have keylessgo working at the same time? Someone kind of mention could be the keyless go problem but not sure.

Out Of Control!!
On previous posts concerning this problem, I have read dicsussions about the possibility of Keyless Go being the cause. Some people have reported this problem in cars without Keyless Go.

I have reported this problem several times on a couple of threads.
Happaened three times in the last 2 weeks, as I previously described, after a month without apparent problems.
I called the service advisor 2 days ago-no c\ll back yet...
Thank you very much

Aah, my favorite topic brought back to life! I had gone several months without stalling. Bring my car in a few weeks to have the rotors replaced (2nd time due to excessive squeaking) and start speaking to the VP of the dealership. She asks how the stalling thing is going and I say haven't stalled since the crank sensor replaced. Well, on the way home it stalls! I discussed with Rob Allen at the AMG challenge this week and he told me that he has heard about this. He told me he would introduce me to one of MB's best techs while we were there. We never hooked up but I sent Rob an email today asking for his contact info. We'll see what happens.

Mine did it once around 12K. Slow speed making a left turn. I took it to the dealer. They took it very seriously and held on to the car for several days. Replaced some electrical components. Dont remember which ones but struck me as odd given the problem was with the engine. The problem has not occured since.

My E55 still stalls, 20 minutes cool down, start on an uphill grade with wheels turned and try to puill out...
Gave up at the dealer. Car is great otherwise.
BTW, ny buddy has an '05 E55 and has just noticed similar stalling.
Thank you very much

Was driving downtown DC and it was very hot. Suddenly the car stalls as soon as I started moving after light turns green. The person behind me started honking. Very embarrassing! Took the car to the dealer and was told they can't find any error codes and couldn't get it to stall after driving it for 20 miles. After a week it did it again as soon as I started moving from a gas station where I put gas. I have a feeling it has to do with the fuel pump, not sure though. If it does it one more time I'll get rid of it and maybe replace it with the new M5.

Happened to me one time during a slow rolling start when I tried to race another E55 owner (RayJ) from this forum in Dallas. I stopped the car, restarted it, then told Ray that I accidentaly pushed the gear selector in "neutral" . We tried it again and then I smoked him. It has never happened to me since that one time.
I do have keyless go.
