I was turning slowly into my driveway and the car died on me I think i red about it few times here, it also died on me once while i was backing up.. but its wiered, what if it was on the highway or somthing that might be dangerous!

Sounds like the stall problem... it happen to me at a dead stop in traffic. The car started up alright 10 sec later. I took it in and it just came back, could not diagnose.

But it's a known problem, of the 6 e55's here in Hawaii, i think they've all done them once.

hi. i had a similar situation with a 94 c. my car did die on the hwy doing 70 mph many times for a period of 4 years. I brought the car to mb several times. many things were "fixed" to try to fix this however they never could figure it out. On my way to trade in the car, after the 3rd stall, a roadside mechanic reported that it was the fuel pump. said his bother had the same problem and this fixed it. As i had spent a few thousand $ already trying to fix it, I decided to trade it in. BTW mb checked the fuel pump and it registered as fine. note: dry gas did help the problem, which suggests it was possibly a fuel pump issue. I just didn't want to spend more $ trying to figure it out. good luck.

Hasn't someone on this forum had MB buy back their car for this reason? Might be worth a try if they can't fix it. It is a safety hazard. Y9u'll have a better trade in for your ML55! :v

Mine did it twice in one day, slow turn into the drive. Never again since, but concerning. I'm very unhappy with this car. The Steeringwheel memory, cd changer, and pass mirror memory in reverse all act up on me, but i can't get the dealer to find the problem cause it only breaks for me.

just heard on a local fix it show, pat goss, that lemon laws effect cars on the first defect if it effects the brakes or the ignition system if it occours in the first 180 days of ownership!

hey guys...that stalling thing has happened to me about 3 to 4 times since i got the car in august 2003. i think on all occasions, i was either comming to s stop at a light or the car was stopped at a light and just turned off. i brought it back to the dealer and they could not diagnose anything and just told me the car was fine. does anyone know why this happens? and why a lot of ppl experience this with our e55s?

Did it happen during hot weather and in stop and go traffic? Thats what happened to me, hasnt happened since. I guess ill have to wait til the next time im stuck in 75+ degree weather and bumper to bumper.

actually, now that i think about it, yes. all those times were during the summer. very interesting.

The same thing happened in my 2005 E55. Have your dealer raise your idle rpm. This will only happen at an almost stand still while your foot is not on the accelerator. It happened to me a few times, and I as well was worried about it happening on the highway. It never happened again.
