First time at the strip in the E
This was the first trip for me and my E55 at the track. I wasn't even planning on going to the track, it was completely spur of the moment. I didn't have the front tires pumped up but I did lower the rear's to 30psi on my second pass. The track I ran at is an old run down track. We had a head wind of about 15mph and I didn't have time to try and cool the car down. The car was a little warm on both runs. I was somewhat pleased with the second run because this is known as one of the slower tracks around our area. I ran a 12.24 which isn't terrible for a bone stock car with Conti's but, the MPH was only 113. Could a head wind effect you on top end that much? I was able to get a 1.77 60' with the Conti's so that's not bad at all I don't think. Let me know what you guys think about the MPH. I just can't understand why the MPH was off that much. The first run was bad, 12.53 with a 2.04 60' but the MPH was a little better at 115. The first run I didn't even let any air out of the rear tires (36psi). Let me know what you guys think. This was the only two runs I was able to make in the car.

12.20's is damn good but....
1.77 60' is awesome!!!...on stock tires. remember...the lower your 60' time is, the lower your mph will be.
put the rears to 25psi, cool the car off...keep the heater on and you should be in the 12.00's keep us posted.

Thanks guys. I plan on another trip out and I hope to be more prepared. I will keep you guys posted. Derek, (nice name also) as far as the 60' times being better and MPH slower. When you have a good 60' time you are covering more track quicker not faster. If your 60' time is slower you have more track to gain MPH. Don't know if that explanition makes sense but, I have noticed this in all my cars that I've ran. I just thought you guys were running higher trap speeds stock than my car.

I'll be making my first run at the track in a few weeks. Question regarding tires - Would I see any significant difference if I ran either 265's or 275's in the rear? I have two sets of stock wheels, one set with PS2's (265's) and the other with SO-3's (275's). What do you think?

Also, see if you can find the tread widths on Tire Rack.com or on the manufacturer's website. Not all 265's/275's have the same tread width. Could be that the actual tread widths are very close.
As far as the heat on - I guess it is intended to let some of the heat out of the engine. I used to do the same thing in my 300 ZXTT's before I ran and before I shut down. Not sure if it worked. Strangely, turning on the A/C and the recirculating fan to max in my Z06 was good for lowering coolant temps by a few degrees.
