Well looks like our high horsepower reign is slowly coming to an end.
Just about every car maker will be pumping out a model near 500hp by years end or early next year. Pretty much a done deal the new N/A will be around 500hp...maybe a few hp over and much less torque.
Latest is Buick....new GNX! What's next, Hyundai?
Just wish Benz would have given us the twin turbs earlier....if it ever friggin happens at all.
Gonna suck to go from near "Kings of the Sedan Street" to "just one of the boys"
Course we are driving a Benz so that always helps....but still.
Here is the info on the new Buick....0-60 in 4.2
New GNX

..............and just as he starts to pull the M5, the trans and rear diff both grenade at the same time.

There's lots of reasons I bought the car, speed certainly being near the top of the list. I have no idea why some people here are so freaked out about what the new M5 can do, or what people say it can do. Who cares! The funniest part is that no one (or very few) will ever drive either car at or near it's limits. So, a magazine tested one .03 faster on a race track. Gee, I gotta sell the car! The M5 will be much faster while i'm sitting in traffic LOL. Back on topic. The Chrysler 300 SRT (or whatever the hell it's called) is also said to do 0-60 in about 4.3-4.5. It's still a Chrysler. And this is still a Buick.
The car looked sweet! Then I heard the Germans killed the project and will not let it move from prototype to the next stage so it can be produced to protect their SLR investment. Don't know how true this is, just something I heard.
at BMW to get the American Muscle started again. I love it. I lived thru the
Deloreon Era when I was in high school in the 60's and all I can say is enjoy it
while it lasts. It can dissappear in a flash like it did in 72. Compression ratios
dropped like a rock along with HP. I might have to update and get new C7
900HP Vette roadster when it comes out in 2010 if the HP wars are still going
on then.
Sweet! :p

That is what I really liked about owning a 55. Benz is usually on the forefront of automotive trends and technology and having a car with 500hp when almost NONE of the others did was something special.
Imagine if Rolex all the sudden brought the price down to under 500bucks.....soon everyone would be wearing one and special feeling of pulling up your sleeve in public would not be the same.
In 12 months, there will be over a dozen cheap cars out there pushing the 500hp envelope and as I said on my thread title.....our high hp near solo reign will be over.
I still hold out hopes of a twin turb 600hp model that can be chipped and Kleemann/EVO'd to 650 to 700, but til then, just have to hope.

Although I am not a fan of the AMG's approach (I am more a M guy) of performance, I insist that Germen still make the best cars in the world.
