Looks like a version of IDrive is on deck for new Benz's. What the heck is it? Why does everyone hate the feature so much?

I know a couple of people who have used it, and they say that the Benz version is extremely simple - we aren't going to have any problems like BMW did.

By the way, the reason for this type of set up originates with some type of new regulation that requires any telematics screens to be closer to the vision of the driver (30 degrees, I think) which makes it impossible to have a bunch of buttons right next to the screen. So you need some type of controller, hence what we have now.

By the way, MB is not calling it anything other than Command.

Thanks mbbodytech.....forgive my ignorance, but I still don't get what she does. So it's something that will help us use the Nav. I noticed pics of the new S Class have this "dial" where the shifter used to be and I thought that was the IDrive thingy. Sorry I am so dumb on this feature.

My brother has it in his 545i. Personally, I don't find it difficult to use. You just need to take some time to learn it first.

The 2nd generation of I-drive is 100% better than the 1st years in the 745/760’s!

I test drove a 745 with the dealer salesman along. I asked him to change the radio from FM to AM, after a minute or so, i just said never mind, I dont need to see anymore.

I have it in my E60 and I love it, im a benz lover but I perfer it over any of there navigaiton systems. Its so much more unique and has alot more friendly and appealing interface to me.

I think the problem is stupid people complaining about it, people who have never seen a computer in their live. People at my dealer could not figure out how to add my bluetooth phone to it, I just asked on a forum took less then 5 minutes to do and it works flawlessly.

it would be nice if they upgraded to touch screens.

the technology has been out for awhile.

Question Bluetooth iDrive vs. COMAND MB phones

By the way, I heard the Motorola CDMA phones don't work very well with bluetooth in the BMW E60 as address book entries don't get automatically syncronized (you have to manually add each item!), unlike the MB system which is 100% automatic.

Does the BMW bluetooth phone system display SMS like the MB?

I'm very satisfied with the telematics solution in the E55. I was not happy with the phone setup in the E60 BMW as it does not give me a simple numeric keypad. I refuse to dial with a linear virtual dial 'line' using a knob.

Any news they may have updated the system in the E60? I have no problem with BMW messing with how a car is driven as they're the experts, but they should leave the phones alone.

The younger you are the easier it is, the older you are the harder it is. I have not had one damn problem with Idrive when i play around with it in the dealer, or in my friends car. Easy as hell to pick up, and its much easer than looking down at the buttons, which you have to do with Command.

Those of you who say Idrive is easy, have you used the 1st gen. Idrive in the first year 745?
There is a HUGE difference between 1st and 2nd generation.

I have used both the 1st gen (745li) and 2nd gen (750li). I felt that both were pretty easy to use, and the 2nd gen was even easier to use. Its very intuitive and has a quick learning curve with a few minutes of use.

There is a difference in 1st and I think 3rd year 745’s when it comes to their idrive.

It was fine just sitting the in car play with it, but to actually have to use it while driving is a different story.
But the redesigned versions are better.
