When is the E55 due for an upgrade and what are the changes (if that info is known yet)? When will they stop production of the W211? Should I wait? About the brake-by-wire, I have heard pro's and con's but mostly the latter from what I can gather browing the forum. Is that due to change?

Next upgrade from most sources will be MY2007 (basically next summer/fall). It seems from what I've read that the brake by wire complaints are being sorted out by newer software, as seen by CLS testimonials. Those improvements from the CLS development are supposed to have been passed on to the E55 starting from Nov/Dec 2004 build dates (based on statements in Mercedes Enthusiast magazine).

If I understand correctly then, I need to look at MY2005 to get brake s/w changes 'enhancements' and MY2006 will be last production of W211.

Yes...the later the build date in 2005 the better. It should have build month on the driver side door jam (open door and look right).

Are you certain? I was on the impression the new E would be out in 2007 as a 2008 model... I'd assume we'd be seeing mules and spy pictures by now if we were talking about MY2007...

There is no rush. I tend to get a little impetuous but will settle down. A while back I came out of an '03 M5 and I think the E55 size and amenities would suit me more. However, nothing I really hate about the C55 and I can certainly wait a year or two.

I drove an '04 E55 before I ordered my '05 and payed special attention to the brakes because of what I had read. Well, the '04 seemed OK. While I waited for my '05 to arrive, my lease was up so I got an '03 E500 loaner for a week or so. The brakes on it were really jerky when slowing down, and I was afraid I had made a mistake. But on my '05, the brake feel is great. No jerking when I come to a stop. They must have figured something out.

Thanks xraymd, for the info. What about the mysterious pulling to the left (or was it right) that I heard about? Any hint of that?

I haven't had any of that, but I'm only at 2200 miles. Others will chime in I'm sure but any issues I've read about online seem to be related to the stock tires and not to the car per se.

I did have a 2002 540, but I didn't join any forums until I started considering the E55. Haven't been on any BMW forums. Maybe somebody is masquerading as me?

Ian...I could be wrong because it is all speculation, but my salesperson I bought my E55 from was telling me to wait for the MY 07 before I decide on any new AMG.
