DPE Wheels?

As per my many posts tonight, I'm trying to find a split spoke style wheel that mimics the OEMs while dropping unsprung weight, adding width at the rear while moving up to 19" and having a wide rear lip. Here is one of DPEs models that may work at around $2,800 per set...

I plan to see if they offer it sans rivets like this model...

Thoughts?

Please do a search on these wheels, I have not heard great things about their construction. With rims you always get what you pay for. With such a nice investment, why not look into a set of HRE's or Kinesis?

Maybe you should check out a set of the BBS line or HRE C series. Just my 2 cents.

HRE has been getting a really bad name in the road racing world.

banned from some series all together for wheel failures and wheels being smaller than spec (tire rotating around the wheel).

Id pass on that headache.

get some CCW wheels... half the cost, stronger, and not banned from any road racing series.

DPE has been recently takin of the Bimmer forums. Everyone on the E46 fanatics forums are all over DPE right now. From what it looks like, they do look like decent set of rims but I have heard otherwise. I wont' say anything because I have yet to see them in person but I have heard that the quality isn't really up to par.

Go to this website, check out their wheel makes and models, www.modularsociety.com, I just bought a set of Zone wheels. You can't get any nice wheel set for 2800.00. For example my rims alone cost around 6000.00!!

No you can't, at least not a two or three piece wheel worthy of an E55. And unless you have a resale license or have a hook up 6000.00 is what they cost, retail, any high end three piece wheel is gonna run 1300-1500+ a rim. Don't have the time to snif out "deals" on car wheels. If you can pay for the car you should be able to pay for the correct accessories.

Yeah I'm really impressed with them, they were able to get them to me quick, even with painted centers, if you have a buddy maybe you can get'm cheaper. Good luck.

Let's just say that I happen to know someone that works there. I wouldn't mind Zone wheels but I already got my new wheels last week. Going to be putting them on hopefully by next week...

I can't find anything from Zone that looks any good IMO on a sports (oriented) car.

The thing about CCW, is that it's more directed to BMW's rather then Mercedes.
But then again, I haven't looked that hard either..

Most E55 owners will probably never see a reason to add aftermarket wheels to their car, let alone for $6,000. The E55 owners who bother to come to these forums probably trend a little younger than the average and are more into performance cars in general. In reality, the 'proper accessories' are the car's standard equipment. 90% of the blingy wheels added onto these cars detract from the look of it. That is part of the challenge of finding wheels that are lighter and / or wider-doing so while not screwing up the look of the thing. I want to pay the least amount possible for the modest losses in unsprung weight and gains in traction that I seek. Paying $3,500+ to get those enhanced characteristics (while likely detracting from the look of the car) just doesn't make sense to me.

i would recommend going with a reputable, established rim company, such as CCW, BBS, OZ, Fiske, etc.

So, let me get this straight...not only do you want the lightest and widest wheel possible but you also don't want to spend any money for it It seems like you're missing one crucial part of wheel manufacturing - it costs more money to make a lighter wheel.

If you're not willing to pay for what you want, then stick with what you've got. Show me a wheel/tire package that is lighter and wider than the AMG wheels - (I'll add that it should be forged as well - just to state the obvious), as well as being cheaper than $3500 - good luck.

I can get a set of pristine used, forged DPEs with tires for $2,850 and a brand new set of 1 pc. forged CCWs for $2,400.

Well it sounds like you're just of the older generation, and probably lack an understanding of todays car trends and styles, buy hey whatever floats your boat. STOCK SUCKS!!!!

Or he understands it fully and wants to make his own trend.

Not everyone wants 22" chromes.
Not everyone wants 16" Drags.
Not everyone wants 19" lookers 'but they are lightweight'.

Everyone has a different taste and opinion, especially on this forum.

That said, yeah, stock sucks, but I don't have 7k$ for a set of decent rims either

Well, it looks like you may have found your wheels. But, for the record, my above statement was not meant to include used wheels.

p.s. on the ccw site, it says pricing starts at $2495/set. I'm assuming that's for 18" wheels, John giving you a hook up on the 19's?
