2012 C63 Black Series Coupe
Man oh man -- 510 HP at 6800 rpm sounds like fun to me! I am SO glad to see MB get back to properly designed NA engines. The superchargers are great in their own way but they add a lot of heat, complexity, and parasitic drag. If you can get this kind of output without turbo or supercharging you're much better off. Plus, it helps when you're going head to head with the new M5. Still very different cars -- I know -- and though I have a new M5 on order BMW is making them far too complex. I can't wait to drive this new AMG 6.3 -- hope they drop it into the E-class soon...

2006 Z06 will have 505 hp. It will cost about $5000 to increase it to 600hp but $15000 to give the AMG motor another 100hp.

What your take on the thread I started on "New N/A pushing 580"
They claim the AMG tester car pushes 580 as it has a freeflow exhaust, yet is the exact same 6.3 that pushes 510.
Is is possible this motor is such a high performace machine that restricting air flow cuts it down 70hp. Perhaps ECU and exhaust.
I know it's a lot less torque than blown, but 580 sure is nothing to cry about.
Wonder just how much torque we will lose....also, who will be the first to have the guts to put the first blower/twin turb on the new motor.
THAT is gonna be sweet. I would imagine you would need new pistons, as the new motor will have just too much compression.
****update...just did the math. Guess new N/A will have around 450ft lbs of torque. WOW, that is considerably less than what I have now. Mine dyno'd at Kleeman at over 650. I know I know...welcome to N/A....just didn't think it would be THAT different. Yikes.

Those cars take mods very well.Im sure that engine is undertuned also because its only making 505hp with like 7.3 liters

Anyways, this is going to be a sweet engine!

Ok, what does 630nm of torque equal in ft-lbs. Also, that 510HP rating is probably the Euro DIN rating. What would the US SAE rating be? About 502hp?

You make good points...stick to the subject without the conjecture and extrapolations and you won't be treated like a troll.

I'll admit i'm not 100% sure what I'm saying right now, but I'm just wondering if 11.3:1 compression is kind of high for a Mercedes engine. How will this impact residual value and engine longevity?

Therefore I still see 480hp as the maximum AMG can get from a 6.3 V8. Unless there's some revolutionary new concept they are hiding from us.

I still think it would have been wise for Benz to try and seek a higher specific output for the engine... 510/503 HP seems a little short-sighted, especially with Audi's rumored plans of a 550 HP or rocket-power or whatever. I suppose the 7G tranny is still an ace up the sleeve, I hope it can work wonders on the 6.3 like it did for the N/A 5.5.
Did anyone else notice the intakes? I don't think that Mercedes have ever made an engine where you could see them before, like a Maserati. Very cool. =)
