New Owner! (soon)

Just got a call from my salesman---my build date is last week of August with delivery (he says) about a month later. I've chosen Pewter cause it seems easier to keep clean---I can still change so I'm open to all opinions. My options are premium (526), lighting, keyless go, and Sirius. May add Burl wood trim and trunk closer. They gave me a decent price for my M3 on trade off of MSRP. Anybody let me know if I'm missing anything. And what extras would be cool to ask for?

Seriously think about the Pewter (ugh)! I would go with the Burl. Don't like the birdseye maple. Blends in too much and cheapens the look of the interior. Just my $.02!

Sounds good Griz...I have the trunk closer and just about every third time i use it, it stops half way down then goes all the way back up and i have to press the button again...i traded in my M3 for my E55 also.

Same here, pewter just doesnt do it for me, more like a Camry color. I prefer Brilliant Silver, or of course Black. I saw a White E55 today and it looked sharp as hell!

Congrats on the new ride, bottom line, it's what's on the inside that counts, and what's inside is a killer powerplant!!!!!

I am partial to white. I think my car looks great. I ordered every option except the pano roof. I didn't think it would look too good with white. I am very happy with my trunk closer. It has never malfunctioned. I especially like the keyless go. It is so nice to leave the key in my pocket and never take it out. To start the engine, I press the button on the shift knob and release it immediately. The car then goes through the start up procedures while I am putting on my seat belt. Nice.

I also really like the distronic and parktronic. I would consider them in addition to your options. I would definitely keep the Sirius radio. I almost never listen to AM or FM. I think the Burl Walnut looks great and I would get it over the maple.

Another option that I would not want to be without is the hands free communication with voice control. It is very impressive when used with the telephone. You just say “Call” and the name of the person and it does everything else. It is very accurate, too.

Since you are getting the rear window sunshade with the premium package, you might want to consider the rear side window shades. They are a very nice complement and they don’t cost very much.

Hope this helps, good luck, and enjoy.

I saw what I think was pewter yesterday on an E55 wagon. It was very flat and not really a color, looked more like primer. It may be a different color. Get the color you like, not what is easy to clean! (Said by a black car guy.)

I'm not a burl wood fan...Burl Walnut is on all the other E-class cars and looks really bright on the black interior of the E55.

I agree with houston on both comments. The pano roof creates a major "wow" factor for the car's occupants. In lighter colored cars (e.g., silver, like houston's), it makes the car look really squat and mean from the outside. I am definitely glad that I got the pano roof.

As for the black birdseye, I feel it makes the car look sportier. Seems like every car maker has a variation on the brown veneer/wood console. The darker wood is unique. Plus, I think I got lucky with a very interesting grain pattern, which makes it really stand out.

As for colors, that's a personal preference. I have Obsidian Black, which has the most amazing sparkle in the sunlight (when it's clean). It's not as dark as the flat black and seems to change hue slightly in different lighting. I think it's great color. I saw an E-class in Flint Grey today and I think that's great color too.

Wow! Thanks for all the generous replies. Yea, the wife has ixnaed the pewter and wants black--either obsidian or opal metallic. I'll look at different colors at the dealer when I turn in the M3 tomorrow. Also wanna get a flat hood emblem---where's the best place? Saw some on Ebay for about $60. It's gonna be a long two months drivin the diesel PU everyday. Lots of things I'll miss about the M3, mostly the great handling. But it just beats you up on any trip over 100 miles and I'm tired of rowin and clutching. And the "upgraded" stereo isn't the greatest. I'm hoping the E's will be a real upgrade.

Ditto on the rear window shade - I use it every day in the summer.

Black Opal is a misnomer - it's actually dark blue. It looks great, but it's not black. Just wanted to be sure you knew.

Here's a link to pictures of Gunite's interior. It has the charcoal interior, blue inserts, and burl wood. I have the same interior except mine has the old style console. Both are beautiful IMO.

I almost forgot, get the Xenons and keyless go. I won't get another car without these two adds. Not having to dig out the keys when you have your hands full is awesome.

I think he did mention Keyless Go.
Nevertheless you're 100% correct, the Xenons and keyless Go is a must in my books

Personally, I like pewter. For sure get the xenons. My car didn't have them originally, but I didn't want to pass on a tectite grey car so I had them retrofiitted. i wish they had just come from the factory stock.
