'03 G500, '13 G63, '17 GLS63,
I would look into a Porsche GT3. Prices have come down and you can get a good pre-owned example in the high 80s, low 90s now. Thats what I'm considering, if only I could get the wife to agree.

I have been driving an 03 SL500 for 2 months during my E55 "rebuilding process". While I do like the SL500 a lot, I prefer the E55. Maybe if I was driving an SL55 it would be different.

AGREED. They drive dramatically different...

IMO, the main problem w/ the 997 is trunk space. It's a second car for sure... I'd suggest the SL55... drives as well the E55 and the top comes down w/ a better growl...

How much do you want to spend? The Porsche 997/911S is a very sweet car, though it didn't have enough passenger/cargo space to qualify as a frequent driver for me. The new Aston-Martin is awfully lovely (but very sold out, I hear). I'll probably get torched for this, but if you want a combination of handling with some "utility" then the new M5 looks awfully nice, and can be ordered with a 6-speed manual. I have one on order, but am not sure about following through. Though I love the handling and engines on the M-cars I dislike the current BMW styling trend -- as well as their movement to excessive gadgetry. Another option might be a used BMW Z8; those have the "old" M5 engine and are very unique cars with great performance...

I haven't decided what to get yet. I am just going to try a lot of cars before buying. I don't need a lot of room, two seats is fine and I definitely want a manual transmission in my next car.

One other thought: the Porsche Cayman is getting a LOT of very good press...

You can actually buy a 'new' Z8 ('03 w/ low miles, never owned) as some dealers here have them hidden away in their lots... That car never sold well.

I think the Cayman looks interesting too-like a boxter with a roof, should be a great handling car.
