W211 E Class / E55 CF Hood
firebomb his house if we get screwed!!!
Right, there is no hood or prototype for the E55 yet. The whole point for this group buy was to pay for the prototype, mold and R&D. Then the hood would be made exactly as described. Its not a hard process, my guys have done this before. Just look at the C32 hood.
It's amazing, that we already have over 3170 hits on this thread with 180 replys. Clearly there is a degree of fascination with this whole "C/F thingy" amongst car lovers. But when all is said and done, you've got 6 firm deposits and 10 more guys with short arms, deep pockets and a massive wedgie from sitting on the fence... :p
If you don't get all 15 deposits in a week, knock it on the head, and get back to doing something more productive. Enough community work!

I must admit, this is very well said. And that's exactly what I will do. I will give it possibly another week. Or maybe a week from when I posted this and then forget the whole deal. This has tied me up so much from my normal work. I have no problem with that since its my job. But everyone wanted brabus vents now I worked so hard to get them to be done, and now people are re thinking.
We are up to 7 prepaid orders.
Vrus, I never received yours, I had the 7th order and now that person is in the 6th place and my local guy will wait for the 2nd batch. I tried to wait, but like I said it is a first come first serve basis and it is not fair to bump people off who were first.

That is super nice of you, but I would feel horrible taking your spot because you would be in the same predicament with the weather as I would. PM me if you are 100% sure and I will submit my money to the group buy.
Let's hope the other 8 are still interested also...

My weather is just a tad bit better than Toronto in the winter (well maybe alot better). We rarely get snow here in Vancouver during the winter and if we do it's just for 1 or 2 days. Temp is usally around 5-10 degrees.
It's okay Victor, you can take the spot. I'll wait til the next batch goes around. I have someone here that can paint it and install it when it arrives later on. At least this way I get to heard all the stories of how everyone likes it. Hell I'll be happy once everyone is satisfied because I'm the one that started this thread and started this hood thing for the E class
Houston,
Can't thank you enough my friend. My hesitation in doing this was mainly because of bad experiences with other vendors requiring non-refundable deposits and failing to deliver product as promised. I hope all runs smoothly for us. It's my own fault that my spot slipped this low so I would have bowed out if it weren't for you.
Much appreciated and I won't forget the jesture!
Depending on how on-time the schedule is, you may keep your spot. If I can get mine before winter I will be happy.
Take care,
Victor

if it says session time out, just click on that picture and it will take you to the main menu.
Click on the GROUP BUY link under Mercedes Benz category on the left side menu.
From there, you can figure it out.
Sure, I was crazy and threw NOS into a built V12 850 and smoked everything I ever came across... and it didn't blow up the engine... for awhile (grin). That was risky. But some guys there were contemplating this and that and maybe that or this and group buys and custom hoods and exhaust and LS diffs... until they scared the designers and suppliers away.
Good GOD relax. Its just a drop of small change in your lifespan. And if you can't afford it or the price threatens your risk to happiness ratio, you probably shouldn't own the car to begin with!
As for promises and hand holding, unless you inherited daddy's money, I'm sure most of you have experienced great success... and failure. You got over the failure and it made you stronger and you don't dwell on it Hell, most of you have lost this amount of money gambling, hitting a great hotel on vacation or on some tickets to some concert or whatever... you get the idea.
Now if this were the Kia Sedona discussion board, I'd understand. So here are my off the top of my head responses to some things I have read.
1) You don't know this guy from Adam, blah, blah, blah... SMACK, snap out of it! You DO KNOW THIS GUY in the ways that matter. A) a website, www.EuroteckMotorsports.com. In additon to all the posted info on the site, You also have associated whois information (Don't freak out BlackC230coupe, just proving a point to the timid)

So, you attorneys have some info... not like you'd ever spend $300 plus an hour of your time to pursue a purchase of this size, but whatever... the "group" knows this guy technically... and I certainly doubt he's going anywhere and taking down his entire business for a measly $12k group buy.
And that reminds me... are you paying in Costa Rican Colones or something, or maybe a credit card? You know, a card charge that you could dispute, complain about, even get reversed if you're in the right? The chances of you being "screwed" are reduced just by the nature of your payment. What else do you want from this guy, a bloody signature?
You know, for 12k total for 15 of these things... he's not making gobs of money anywhere... he's not hidden or secret or hard to find, so lighten up!
And to be honest, with the hesitation going into the group buy, I can't imagine many of you actually hunting and lynching anyway, so that talk is non productive and, well, untrue.
2) Fit, finsih, OEM, paint quality, painting in difficult climates, ... waaaaaaaahhh, wahhhhhhh... Good lord! Ok, first, if you've heard about a paint job not working out, that's because of the MORON THAT PAINTED IT. So, here's a tip... get someone who does a good job! Get a referral, find someone talented and avoid 1 day paint and body. Bad weather? Paint it INDOORS. I'm no paint expert, but I've gathered that's a common practice nowadays... heated, indoors, etc. Leave it there for a couple days so it dries too. Maybe there's some other reasons I'm not aware of, but I'm guessing paint and body centers don't just close for the winter.... they must compensate for the temp somehow. What a temporal business that would be. So, obviously, a decent shop can compensate for those of you in harsher climates... Store it for you during the winter months? Like a squirrel? Well, if it really came down to that... move your porno and put it under your bed... or hang it from a ceiling since its so light. Maybe you'll start a trend. A hood is thin, unless you're living in an igloo up there, you should be able to find some space... The bottom line is WHO CARES HOW YOU STORE IT when its a chance to have 1 of 15 of anything! You either want it or you don't. When you want something, you always find a place to store it.
As for the rest of the concerns, its a little bit of a risk... but that's what you get in just about anything these days... including punching it around a turn... or flying along only to find a deer in the middle of the road as one of you found out. Get over it and be positive lads!
Let's get those last orders in, get this done, motivate him to do it well and not prove the vaulted E55 group to be conservative BMW types the go back on their word.
Otherwise people might think you bought that E55 to compensate for something...
Live a little boys.
Loren
Guys, your BRABUS rear deck spoiler cost you more than this fabulous C/F hood (we hope!) - compare the value and what work goes into these two items!
Live a little! Imagine being one of only 15 people on the planet with a C/F clad E55.
If you don't like it raw C/F, paint it purple with yellow polka dots. Enjoy the shark-gills vents and the weight savings over your front suspension.
It will sharpen your turn in just like the PS2's did when you dumped the Contis. Then, there is the steam rising off your hood on a cold Chicago/Toronto winter's night....
At least you know what your shipping costs are. I have to drag it half way around the world, who knows for how much, and if I don't like it, tough ****,
I cannot take it back!
i see you guys need a deposit. could someone pm me or post a summary of whats the status now.
1) i need to provide a deposit (got that part)
2) 1st batch (6) to be produced, delivered when? (assume i'm not on that list)
3) 2nd batch, when will those be delivered?
4) prototype, did this ever get resolved?
5) vent or not to vent, again, what was the decision here.
sorry to ask the questions over that i'm sure are covered in the entire thread, but an update would be great. in reply to this or if the thread owner would just update the first post with the latest and greatest info. i'll send the money as #12, just need someone to answer the questions for me.
cheers,
Gareth
P.S. Did we ever find out how much the OEM hood weighs? (what our weight savings would be)
