2004 e55 not smooth on take off anymore
For some reason lately when i take off from a stop and give it a little gas it is kind of jerky.lately i have been hearing the supercharger chirp and getting an abrubt jerkyness off the line. Any ideas what this could be. I am going to take it to the dealer on Monday.
Thanks,
Todd

I'll be curious to see what your dealer says. Mine also seems kind of "jerky". It's not all the time, and I can kind of control depending on how I feather the throttle.

Seriously, I thought it was all part of the "electro blower clutch" engage process.
Although I hate that part of my beast (wife always gives me looks, like I am goosing it on purpose), I just chaulked it up to life with high horsepower.
Can anyone else chime in....are most of your cars super smooth off the line... no jerking.....no chirp?? You guys can't feel it at all when the blower kicks in??
Lemme know what they say at the dealer.
Thanks for posting too!!

Mine is jerky too...But everytime I've complained about it, everyone says it the blower and the electromagnetic clutch. Besides fuel consumption, why the heck do we the electromagnetic clutch?
If I tip the throttle in slow and gentle, the car is smooth and the 1-2 gear change is smooth. But a stab on the throttle and the car seem to have a lag, and decides whether to turn on the supercharger.

thats exactly what mine is doing. maybe thats just how it is. although last itme i brought it in and they did an adaptation on the car and it was super smoothe for a while. go figure. not exactly sure why. ill let you know if they find anything. reading the rest of your post i highly doubt it though.

a few...
same
mine seems to be the same as everyone else is describing. Haven't really ever complained about it though as i just figured that it's somewhat normal since with the other e55 wagon in the family, it does the same thing.... who knows.
I can seem to have it perfectly smooth sometimes but others its not at all, just kinda depends on the day it seems.

Mine is jerky only if the ESP is on. I drive mine with the traction control "off" always. It will still help when wheelspin gets totally out of hand but it seems much more like a normal high HP car. I think sometimes with all the torque at low RPM ESP kicks it changing the acceleration pattern. Try driving a bit with the ESP off and see what happens.

Before all of these "mastrubatory" remarks get everyone "hot", let me just say that is normal.
You are hearing (chirp) and feeling (jerk) compressor clutch engage. Some cars are worse than others. There are several solutions to make symptoms less obvious, but they will eventually re-appear.
It is just a part of driving the "beast".
P.S. C32/SLK32s do it too.

Thanks for the re-assurance. I feel a lot better now... even if my passengers are spewing their guts all over the leather...
