Everyone was pretty violent about it few months ago.
Now that we are stuck with it for the next few years.....anyone planning on snagging one (E with 6.3) next year?
Just curious.

I might consider the 63...keyword: might. I may just wait until the new E-Class to come out before I get another car. I can't say anything bad about my current W211 E55, for me, it's the perfect daily driver.

I drive a E55T, SLK55 and 65 Mustang Conv.
Wolf really surprised me on this one. I thought he'd be the first in line to get one but he says he wants to wait and see as well. Can you believe he still keeps me guessing after 17 years of marriage?

Car runs in the 11's with ease, handles well being lowered w/LSD. Once the throttle body is installed (less stress on SC) will be over the 600HP mark without CAMS and the big thing.....have major equity in the car.
Based on that, I will enjoy my beast for a few more years

Placed my deposit last night
I placed my deposit with my dealer last night. I'm number one on the list and was told there will be some updates to the body. We estimated that it will be a 2007 model year car. Some of the rumors from the dealer were Horsepower would be in the 530HP to possibly 550HP range. Another rumor was the 7G transmission would be part of the E63 setup. I'll enjoy my E55 every day until the new beast arrives!

What do you mean?
1 for the new 6.3
2 Maybes
4 Against
My bet is they change up the body, thus forcing the "status" people to switch just to have the latest model. Many more will fall in line when performance numbers come out. Gotta tell ya, if this thing is slower than new M5, it's gonna get ugly real fast.
I honestly am holding out judgement til I see those famous 1/4 mile numbers. If Motor Trend has current one at 12.5 and the new one comes in 12.8 or 9...I guess cool. Think I am dreaming though. Maybe AMG will keep us 1/4 milers in mind and give us some stout gearing to make up for lack of torque. We'll see.

After having tasted the goods of the M113K, I will not purchase a non-forced induction E55, so no, the normally aspirated 6.3 is definitely not having me "sign on".
I'll probably keep my '03 until the warranty runs out or so, then either get a slightly used '06 or maybe Audi will have the RS6 out by then.
I'm not going to buy an E55 that is slower than my previous one, that's just silly to me. By the time the 6.3 hits I'll be doing 600hp with my car and have room to spare.

MB ditched the SC due to new european safety regulations. There is no longer enough space for the SC but i am sure you guys will be very happy with the turbo's. MB isn't going to downgrade its engines. I am sure you will all be pleasantly surprised.

I nearly did not order my E55 because of the engine announcement ... but gave it maybe an evenings' thought and ordered it ...
The whole thing that makes the E55 such a brute is the magical massive torque low down from the blower motor ... and then there is the beautifull sound to go with it - to me this motor is 90% of the car.
The new higher revving unit just has a character that I dont like. I dont want to wind up a motor to get it going - although make no mistake this new unit is going to be real quick 500nm at 2500rpm is no slouch and its lighter by 30lbs smaller etc all adds up ... it may add upto a better balanced car on the track and potentially quicker - but how often do you race your car around a track ....?
The main gripe about the E55 is it does struggle to get the 700nm of torque onto the tarmac ... why it does not have an LSD as standard is beyond belief - and this Electronic trickery where they use the cars brakes to stop wheels spinning is cr*p - since if you go wild with the unit the brakes overheat and it warnes you to back off.... mmmm.
Anyone have the Kleemann LSD - 60% lock up is that enuf ? - the new M5 has 100% LSD I hear...

"a variable M-type limited-slip differential, which we are already familiar with from the BMW M3, ensures optimum driving behaviour in all situations."

Think in certain circumstances it can get to 100% lock up in launch control mode.
