Oil Change Interval
I am bringing my car in for service this Saturday to (hopefully) have them get rid of the cat **** smell from the A/C vents. My car has 4,800 miles and is not quite 1 year old. I had them change the oil when I brought the car in for its 1,500 mile inspection last November.
Question - am I just wasting money if I have them change the oil and filter this weekend? I like the peace of mind, but could think of something else to do with $90.
Thanks.

I'd wait. With over 8 quarts of synthetic in the engine, you can go for the recommended yearly changes or every 10k miles with no concerns.

I think that 10k is too much.
It will be ok I think, cos new Mobile 1 says 15k miles.
But I still think that best Oil change interval in a car that advanced and powerfull and normaly driven - is about 6-7 k miles.
That's what I do with all my cars.
10k miles - is 16k kilometers - it's just too much.
While 6-7 is about 10-12, which is ok.
If you use Fully Synthetic oil.

I change the oil at 5,000km no matter what the manual says.
Also, if the car sits for extended periods of time it is a good idea to change the oil once it comes out of hibernation also.

For my MBs,
oil and filter at 1k
filter and makeup oil at 5k
oil and filter at 10k
...my other cars are sooner.
I've run many cars on Mobil1 and had the oil analysed at various times. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the oil at 5k. Even at 10k, the oil is still completely within spec but barely so.
The filter is a different story.
