MB E 430 Wagon Avantgarde
It wouldn't surprise me.. Taxi cars areound Europe are often E-Class, most often 320 CDI.. And police cars has to be faster than taxis, right???

I didn't find an E55, however I found this nice C-Class police car from Germany...

If they do in fact have E55s as po-po cars, they probably have no idea how lucky they are.

I heard it was a display car from the 2002 Paris Auto Show. With unemployment so high and national pride at stake, do you really think the goverment would buy an expensive German car? LOL

"Tourists come to Britain and see the beige Vaxuhalls and think 'well, they must be broke!' While the Italians, who are broke, have Lamborghinis!"
"Why would they need a Lamborghini? I know that it is impossible to commit a motoring offense in Italy."

I really think it would be a great idea for the local law to use a car other than a Crown Vic or Impala, though contracts probably prevent it. Think about it- in most cities, wouldn't a debaged white or silver E55 be the perfect undercover car? =)

in ny and im sure other states, the cops use more than just the crown vics and impalas. yeah sure those are the standard patol and detective cars but ive seen impounded mustangs and other cars turned into highway patrol cars and now that i think about it the new york state troopers that patrol the thruway (I87) sometimes use camaros. undercovers now a days in nyc use anything and everything, lately ive seen them in the new cherokees, pathfinders, maximas, etc.

BklynBenz is on the point.

In Texas, there are an insane amount of interceptors.

CHP have used marked 5.0 Mustangs, IROC Camraos and other high performance cars for years. Most were either all black or all white. Even the local county sherrif uses a white Trans Am but that damn thing has no markings on it at all. Even the light bar is concealed on the back of the passenger's sun visor. I remember Connecticut or one other small NE state used Grand National Buicks.

There isn't much need for them anymore since there are safer and more sophisticated ways of running down speeders. High speed pursuits usually end up in major injury, death or worse, a lawsuit!

4 wheels
Our local CHP station here in SJC has 2 to 3 new Camaro's. They blend in so well with regular cars its amazing. The only thing that differentiates them as a CHP car is the logo on the side of the car. Even the LED lights on top of the car are so small its hard to see them.

It sure as hell is a stealth vehicle and they are always pulling over speeders from the border checkpoint to Dana Point. Its amazing how fast those cars are.

I wouldn't put much stock in any more than just a handful being used (if any)... I can't see even the slightest economic justification for such overkill.

This one is Colorado State Patrol car. Never saw one on the road.

Saw a Lexus GS400 once. Several SAAB 9-5s, couple of Land Rovers.

Otherwise regular police cars including a Camaro.

'03 G500, '13 G63, '17 GLS63,
There is always the rare and exceptional case involving "exotic" cop cars, but it is not the norm. It's usually done for publicity. In Lamborghini's case, it is famous worldwide and brought attention to both Lamborghini and the Italian police force utilizing it.
Its also not uncommon for local police departments to take seized vehicles and put them into service.
