Best location for the IPOD in the E55

This is a bit of a mindless post, but the day is dragging on here. The dealer wants to put it somewhere in the glovebox, but that eats up quite a bit of space.

The arm rest between the front seats already has the drink holders and the phone kit in it.

Including those two places, any other clever suggestions on where to hide the IPOD? If I'm controlling it from the on dash display, I don't need to see the unit at all, just be able to plug it in easily.

Any clever suggestions?

On the 03 and 04 cars, the center armrest has 2 compartments. The top compartment is for the phone and smaller items.. The lower compartment is pretty deep.. Can you not put it in there?

catch 22 - 05's get the IPOD kit. 05's also get the new rolltop console, so no double layer armrest.

good suggestion though.

Quick question. Since I have the EURO Command, am I able to hook up the IPOD kit?

unsure...the ipod kit lists as compatible for 05 W211's. you'd have to check with the dealer.

Here is a picture of it with the cradle in the glovebox. I believe the car pitured is a C-Class. My dealer, HBL in VA would not put it in the center console. Mine is in the glovebox but I have yet to purchase the cradle.

I just personally like the older center console better than the roll-top in the 2005... To each his own...

no offense intended, just having a little fun. yea, everyone has their own taste and they are entitled to it. the old console just seems clunky to me, but then again, here i suffer with much less room to deal with.

spoke to the dealer. they will only install in the glovebox. if i want it any other place i'm will have to do this myself.

I called today and my dealership informed me that I could put this kit on my 03 W211. Has anyone else heard different?

I am pretty sure I asked SteveMBNL about this and he told me it only works on the 2005 E55.

I asked steve @ mbenznl, here is his response...

The Ipod integration kit is now available for the 2005 211's as I have
one on order, Do you have any concerns that the integration kit WILL NOT
work with the Euro-spec COMAND?
---> 100% compatible - no problem there.

I have mine at the dealer now for the installation, as there were no instructions in the box. I also looked at a few other kits at the dealers parts dept. and the too did not have them, I will as my SA to provide a copy of the installation procedures and post them on the site, unless someone else beats me to it.

I'll also take some pics of the completed install for you guys.

Thanks Flint! If you could take some pics of how the wires connect to the battery in the trunk, it might be a boring picture, but very very helpful for any of us who wanted to do this on our own.

The other key is what the wires connect to in the front (one goes to ipod box, and there are two remaining ones).

Looking forward to seeing your post. Thanks again!!

O.K., I have the installation spec, not all of it, but enough for you guys to see what you're getting into. What's missing is how to remove all the panels. I don't know why my SA wouldn't give these to me, I can’t see how that would me proprietary information. The thing is I cant post/host them, I'd be happy to email them to someone to post/host. And as soon as I get the car back I'll take as many pics as you guy’s want.
