Hi Guys Newbie Here =)

Hi, all ! First I would like to say that I have been reading posts on this board and I actually like it here as nobody really puts anybody down or starts trouble or has a bunch of teenages pretending to have an E55. I will be the proud owner of a 05' E55 (with the old console :p )as soon as the guy who won my ebay auction for my 745 comes to pay me and just wanted to ask your opinion before I get it.

The car is an 05 with 5700 miles and almost all options except keyless go and distronic and the guy wants $77,500 for it but he told me that he is going to take it to the dealer this weekend to have something repaired with the suspension and a warning light of some sort ? Should I be worried or is it common ? Also he wants to sell me his to buy an 06 E55 ? That's the other part that makes me worry. The guy that ownes the car currently is older (50+) and does not race the car so I know it has not been ragged on but I did ready about alot of problems with the car in general but I still love it soo much that I am still willing to buy it if the problems can be fixed.

Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Sean

What's up an welcome to mbworld!

Take a look at this thread.

That'll summarize all the main things wrong with the E55 as far as known fixes are concerned.

Thanks alot ! but in your own personal opinion, should I still get the car knowing it has problems ? I took a chance on my 745 being it was an 02 and they had many problems but the warranty was extended to 100K miles by bmw so I knew it was covered under warranty but I don't know how good the MB warranty is and especially not buying it from the dealer will mean I won't get a loaner from them.

It's your choice.
You ask me without telling me it's an AMG, I would say no.
You ask me, after you've told me it's an AMG and you're willing to work things out, I say get it.

As for considering the price of the car, I haven't even thought about that. I'll let someone more educated help you with that one.

Well, its your decision whether or not to get that particular car. The way I see it is if they are selling it to get an '06 E55 it might not be a problematic car. If it had real problems they would probably buy a different brand. Sounds like a very good deal at $77500.

I would ask if you can speak to his MB service agent to discuss any problematic service history with the car. Good luck.

Also you know what else sucks ... I have called the dealer when I bought my last few cars including my 02 745 and the dealer was able to tell me what services were performed on the car by giving them the vin number and mercedes won't give me that info, is it because they are scared of what might show and stop me from buying their car ?

Why else would they not tell me ? It's not like I can do anything with the info.
Well maybe I might just drive to the guys house and say "HA HA HA you had to take the car in for service you sucker !!! HA HA HA " then drive away ??

It would definitely help to get him to cough up the services the car has required, but I can tell you this for sure - as far as I am concerned, the car doesn't require any more attention than any average car. Besides the regularly scheduled 10,000 mile check-ups, I've had to take it in to the shop maybe 2 or 3 times and it sat there for a day and thats it. As far as warranty goes, however, MBZ...well...sucks.

The owner can go to the dealer and get this information for you. Most dealers will not give you this information if the car is owned by a private party and the person is not you. Unless you know someone.
