Need Phone info????

My '04 has the built in phone option (ordered it that way) and I am currently forced to use the Motoral V-60 (I have a Verizon CDMA one and an AT&T [now Cingular] TDMA one). They work okay but Cingular is not really supporting the old TDMA network (new stuff is all GSM). The whole family and I are on Cingular so I want to get the Motorola V600 (already have one but would need the MB version) in the car. The service tech I deal with said it's not possible with the 04 computer/software. Does anyone have info or connects for upgrading or installing something that will allow me to use the newer phone? TIA mp

Bump...anyone know if I can upgrade my 03 E55 phone kit to work with the Mercedes-Benz v600 from Cingular? If anyone has an answer, let it be heard. Please!

One word - Mikbox (also a forum sponsor)

I use a Non Mercedes Motorola V710 in my CLK that came stock with a StarTac. Simple install, reasonable price. Mik can also turn you on to the cradle that mounts in the console.

Was about an hour to install everything.

I have a 2004 model that came with the phone kit and had Dean (who works with Steve aka MBenzNL) install a UHI kit. Right now I have the cradle for the Nokia 6230. It works great. You should look into getting a UHI kit.

the best bet is to get Steve from NL to do it - he says you lose the teleaid but I think I will have him do it for me when he comes over in October. mp

2003 E55 Techtite over Blue Leather.
I managed to convert my hard wired cradle in my 2003 E55 wich supported my previous V60 to accomodate my New V710. Believe it or not, Mercedes may have switched their entire cradle system as of late 04 to the interchangable cradles, but the frimware protocol NEVER changed from the old V60's to the new V600 & V710! I was able to find a $250 brand new Mercedes Version of the 710 and now I dock it just like I did my V60. The only problem is that I don't think Mercedes offers GSM phones.. Do they? ( Myphone is the CDMA type for use on Verizon in California)

Yes, they offer GSM in the form of the Moto V600. Please elaborate on how you did this. Obviously, this is exactly what I would be looking. PM sent your way, hope you can help.

I checked with Steve from The Netherlands. He's real good but not cheap! He wants about $1100 to convert a 03' or 04' E class over to an MHI cradle set up and that doesn't include the phone! Also, when he converts your car, he MUST disconnect your tele-aid which I didn't find very savory for re-sale. Personally, I did not want to spend that kind of dough on a car I'll only have for another 18 months, especially since my car had all of the electronics already installed in it for the V60 including Voice recognition. My way, I just bought a Motorola "Hang up cup" for the V710 and opened it up and transfered the guts from my V60 cradle into the hang up cup. I had to cut away a significant part of the plastic on the rear of the cradle but you can't see any of that when the cradle is sitting flat against the center console floor. The only tools I needed were a T6 & T8 torx screw driver(s) and a mini rf antenna coupler to connect the antenna because the cable in the center arm rest terminates in a male end as does the antenna connection on the cradle... big deal (2 bucks at Fry's)

Who's gonna try this with the (GSM) V600? If this works, it will be awesome. E55Soon, do you know anyone with an MB V600 that you could try for us...pretty please...???

Darkstar:

It should work with EITHER the Mercedes Benz brand V710 OR the V600. They are identical phones as far as Mercedes is concerned... one simply has more features than the other. As a matter of fact, I believe that they both use the same cradle. It is not nearly as difficult to do as you guys might think. You just need to get your hands on a Motorola brand cradle...either from their car kit which is a couple hundred bucks(and then you end up throwing most of the other crap away) or just get the cradle by itself from any Verizon store for about $40. They probably have to order it for you. Once you get the cradle (aka the "hang up cup") you need to start the Mod work. Anyone interetsed, PM me and I'll give you my phone number and describe it all over the phone. REMEMBER one thing, in the end your cradle will still be hard wired into your car just like your V60 was. This is not an "end-around" to the MHI interchangebale cradle system. If you want MHI pop-in/pop-out cradle utility, and you have an 03' or 04' E class, you have to hire our Dutch friend Steve and his trusty side-kick to install the MHI kit that they make which will run you over a grand (not including the phone) and will disable your tele-aid.

E55Soon, I just want to use a GSM clamshell phone. I had a v600 (non-benz) and it wasn't that great. I'd go back to it however if it works with this setup in the car. (PM sent...)
