7G-Tronic can't handle torque?

7G-Tronic can't handle torque?
I'm sure theres a reasonable explanation...
It has been said that the relatively new 7G-tronic transmission can not handle the torque of the supercharged V8 5.4L and turbocharged V12 5.5 and 6.0L engines.
The supercharged V8 produces 516lb/ft torque. Yet the new E420 CDI diesel engine produces 538lb/ft torque AND comes with the 7G-Tronic standard.
I know the 7 speed gearbox can handle the torque, as demonstrated with those who have supercharged their SLK55s, but why have we been told the gearbox can't handle the 'torque' on the E55, SL55, 65 etc? Is the answer just too complicated for the average consumer? :P
*edit* the torque is very peaky in diesel engines and doesn't last long... maybe the gearing is just too short for the high powered petrol engines? Maybe i've answered my own question? who knows!

This is one of my biggest fears with the new N/A and 7G.....that they built it right on the torque limit of the motor, almost "locking us out" of modding. Bout the only real thing you can do anyway is freeflow exhaust and ECU, but that would bump you over the 7G's torque limit.....weird.
They gotta be working on a heavy duty 7G for the twin turb S's that are coming out...no way the standard could handle that.

I'm sure there's still some headroom. Also, the torque peak of the diesel comes much lower in RPM's than in the gas models, so I'm sure that has something to do with it going in the diesel.

Remember the story posted about some guy that put an SLR motor in the SLK55 chasis? Well, he put in a modified 7G transmission that was able to hold 1200nm (885lb/ft).. They can be made to handle the torque so the only question is why doesnt AMG do it from the factory.

Weird....was emailing Kleemann bout some things and this is the reply I got today.....good timing......was asking about modding the new N/A and tranny issues.
New variant of 7Gtronic is coming from AMG that will tolerate mucho power-

to tell you the truth i hate my 7g tronic in my ML350 it jerks like crazy and sometimes when u hammer it it starts to confuse which gear to choose.... 5 speed all the way....
