Angry Shimmy

My 2003 E55 has a slight shimmy I can feel in seat. Have rebalanced tires three times. Mechanics have told me all four wheels are slightly bent. I have a hard time believing this since car has only 10,000 miles and has not hit any major pot holes. Shimmy comes and goes. If wheels bent should be a chronic problem, right? I've read elsewhere that shimmy is a common problem with E55 with original Continental tires. What have others experienced??

You do not feel it in the steering wheel?
If not look rearward.
You could have a bent suspenion component.
Or...
Change your tires.

It's the tires. Been there done that. Switch to michelin Pilot sports for the best ride of your life.

Contis? If yes, you still have the original flat spots from the Atlantic crossing LOL. This is not a joke, but a genuine MB claim.
These tires have incredible memory! I know two people who swapped their E55 tires under warranty because of that. I didn't wait that long and switched mine to PS2 on the first day.

If you have Conti's then that is your problem.....

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
Mine shimmied from day one. Never could get MB to replace with Michelin PS2s. They would have replaced them with Contis and I declined. Replace the fronts and if you have the extra cash the rears. PS2s are far superior in every way. If you do a search you'll find numerous threads on this subject. Do not replace wheels rotors etc they are fine.

Thanks to all

Thanks to all for responding to my shimmy problem. It has been driving me crazy and I have seriously thought about 4 new sets of wheels. I do have original Contis, which must be the problem from response I've gotten. Don't know how mechanics came up with 4 bent wheels. Seemed off the wall to me. Anyway thanks again. This forum is definitely a "good thing" as Martha would say.

They don't just happen to know a friend who is in a wheel business?...
Or better still , this is not an MB dealer trying to get you to buy some OEM wheels?
The next time you get your wheels balanced, watch each wheel on the spinning machine. If the rim does not move up and down or side to side, then it is not bent, period.
Your dud "square" tire will bob up and down, quite visibly too. Try to look at the rim and the tire separately. It is possible, trust me, one is silver and the other is black...LOL
