Interesting air intake....straight up through the hood. Never thought of that.

I think they are the same headers that we have on our cars (except the modded cars with K2 or some other upgrade). I guess they just look different when they are glowing at about 1000F.

No, I think they are different. Here's a pic of the original manifolds along side Kleemann headers that I gleened from Rock's thread. The originals are fairly straight compared to the pic above. Also, notice how the flange exits straight down. Those are probably dyno headers for this engine that closely approximate the in-car version in the pic below.

With that air intake I bet AMG is dreaming up some sort of amphibious vehicle. Yeah, you think you're M5 is fast? Well let's race out on the water!

Yeh the headers are different. They bolt on an entirely different exhaust system during that testing. There are lots of pictures of the new 6.3L doing that.

That's an engine dyno. Engines are developed on a dyno long before they start testing them in a chassis. I’ve attached a photo of an engine in a dyno room. Ignoring the completely different engine design, you’ll note the air intake is from an inferior location – in the dyno room. The MB engine is drawing cold air from outside. The goal is to attempt to emulate the engine compartment as closely as possible, while still having full engine accessibility. That's also why the MB engine has a FULL exhaust system.
