M5's arriving to US Owners this week

The first US owners should be receiving their M5's later this week. Some are in port and just waiting on some CARB stuff (California emissions). Mine is on the boat due into NJ on October 20th. We'll finally get to see what they can do. My prediction is 12.2-12.5 while doing very well on curves.

just curious, how does the stock published trap speeds/times of the M5 compare with an E55 with full Kleemann kit (LSD, etc.), but without Derek's special juice added?

Does anyone have those statistics? Either of them?

AMG
sat in an M5 , its sporty by all means , but on the other hand it isn't comfortable nor elegant as the E55... although performance and handling wise is better, they even chosed it over the F430,,,, what the heck...

Mopeds and fat chicks - both can be fun, until your friends see you riding one.

I have not gone to the track since I installed my LSD but with K2 I was trapping 120/122 all day and running in the 11's. I am sure the stock M5 will not have a chance with a K2 or higher car. I would think even a stock E55 will run better 1/4 times. Last time at the track, bone stock E55's with first time drivers at were runing 12.2/12.3 all day.

I am thinking 12.5+ in 1/4 mile. The powertrain and output is very similar to the Lamborghini Gallardo. The M5 weighs 500+lbs more and does not have the awesome traction of the Gallardo's AWD. The best 1/4 mile time for a stock Gallardo I have seen is 12.4. Maybe the 7 speed SMG will be an advantage but not enough to offset the weight and traction advantages. Also, how difficult will it be to extract any more hp out of the M5's V-10? It will be a very...very expensive proposition with a meager increase in output.

I'm salivating for some US numbers for this thing! I believe its real advantage will be acceleration above 100mph. Oh and BTW, its FUGLY!

I think it looks cool. Definitely not as elegant as the E but cool in a sporty way. As for performance, my times were as follows:
12.33 Bone Stock
11.65 K2, LSD, BF DR's
11.13 All the above plus a 100+ shot

Greg (Zinc), welcome to the world of MB! Glad to see you here.

Spero, you had a trap speed of 122? Was that with stock tires and without LSD?

Derek, What was your trap speed on the 11.65 run?

OT: I think my new K2 car is stuck in Colorado with the 18" of snow.

121.9 with S03 street tires inflated to street PSI. Best 0-60 was 1.81

Looking forward to going back to the track either the 1st or 2nd week of Nov and see how she runs with LSD and throttle body

It is great that they are finally out stateside. From what I have read, the cars have very long break-in periods - 3,500 miles or more - and (according to some) the M5 motors need a careful break-in. It may be a while before they hit the tracks. Geez, it would take me 8 months or more to get to that mileage.

I am predicting 12.4 - 12.6 at 118 or 119 from real owners. Very quick. I think it will pull like a train at high speeds, but the relative lack of low-end torque and watered down launch control will "hurt it" up to 330'. But most of the guys buying that car aren't buying it for its drag strip performance.

I for one am really looking forward to seeing them at the strip once and for all. Should be fun.
