Mine is being delivered to me at noon in Savannah. I'll be there with the Noble running at Roebling Rd. I am then doing a drag race on Sunday. My dealer is driving it down from New York so the break-in period will be complete, almost to the mile, when I arrive at the dragstrip.

Stay tuned for videos and timeslips (Yes, the E will be there as well). Let the games begin.

Derek,
Isn't the full break-in period 3000 miles? I know the 1200 mile service is mandatory because, for one, they use a special break-in oil that needs to be changed to the regular synthetic oil. But most people have said to observe break-in for 3000 miles

Actually, there really isn't a point where you can "finish" the break-in period and really start driving your cars. The mileage usually listed is just kinda to give you an idea of when you can let off a bit on the nanny style driving.

In other words, its best to start off real slow for the first couple miles and then gradually hit it harder.

Hitting the 3000 mile mark does not all of a sudden give you the freedom to play around with it however you want.

Just my opinion. Am I making any sense? It's been a long week lol.

Sure...... I'll just drive it softly for the first 10,000-50,000 miles. Gimme a break. I was drivin' the E like I stole it after 400 miles and it's performance hasn't seemed to suffer.

I would break this car in slow enless you want it to burn 5 quarts of oil every 3k miles.

m engines are not like amg low compression engines

if you do not allow the rings to seal in break in you will have a oil burning engine.

and I hope you were kidding if your going to drag it with the special break in oil that the car gets from the factory.

the engine was not made to be revved over 5.5k with the **** in it and your going to drag it

Having been a BMW engineer (my division created these seals 4 years ago), I think I'm covered. Not really, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Select last night.

No really, I do appreciate the advice. Please ignore any timeslips and all videos posted Sunday night.

Just make sure they are constantly shifting and varying engine RPM if it involves much highway driving. You don't need to baby it, but you do need to avoid constant engine speeds and vary RPM's as much as possible, gradually working towards the redline.

Derek,

I will gladly volunteer to drive your new M5 from New York to Savannah. I'll not exceed any manufacturor-recommended break in schedule and will even hand wash the car upon arrival in Savannah.

I'll even bring my helmet along in case you need a co-pilot for the track

Do you know anything about metals? If you do not give the engine a bit of punch during break in, the seals WONT seal as well as they could.

Chappy, while your offer is much appreciated, it's not needed. The delivery is covered. BUT, grad your helmet and meet me in Savannah and we'll ride around Roebling in the Noble. Meet me in Valdosta and you can run my E against me in the M5. Come on over!

They can't bash the Noble too much sitting next to a M5 and an E55. I guess they can snip all they want in my rear view mirror.
